Generally speaking money is a store of value.
The more skills you have, the more time and effort you put towards something, the more important you are in the social hierarchy, the more money you get, the more value you have.

The more value you have, the less risk you represent, the less stress, the less danger.

Which is more dangerous? Which is most likely to stick around? Which is going to cause less strife to the status quo?
The one with the most to lose?
Or the one with nothing to lose?

You know how the golden ratio of the face and the body ratio of women automatically trigger mating hormones in men? Get them all happy and excited?

Group security does the same for women.
The more money you have, the more the group has given you, the more you are dependent upon the group, the more value you have to the group, the more likely you are going to stick around, the more likely you stick around and protect the relationships of the group that allows you to make all that money, you'll protect the group, rather than run off and leave a barefoot and pregnant chick wondering why no one cares.

Money determines value, value determines status, status determines hierarchy, hierarchy determines security.

Money is a shortcut to group/social security just as hip to waist ratio and facial symmetry is a shortcut to healthy DNA.
