Good afternoon my lovely folks of mingle2, sorry for the delay in my presence, I had a busy schedule this week. But I will always make room for my " Hot Tea Topics". Shouts out to my " Vocal Avengers" on here I got a juicy one for you guys today. Okay, lets get right into it. Okay, I was in my world studies class, a little bored what was being expressed so I just my Android and I went to CNN news.com & at first I was going to post about the NFL players kneeling during the pledge of allegiance. By now I know you all tires of that story but I got a story which I know you will voice deeply. I call this one " My Mom Is Big Brother....!" Why I call it that is because a Virginia mother said Wednesday that they dropped all charges against a mother who was accused of illegally recording audio from her daughter's classroom, an action she sais was meant to help her to determined whether the child was bulled. Sarah Sims, 47 of Norfolk ,Virginia had been charged this month for a felony, intercepting wire, electric & oral communications, with a misdemeanor after her daughter's elementary school told police to confiscated a digital audio recorder in the girl's desk. in September. Sims could of been sentenced up to five years in prison had she been convicted. Follow me now, there was enough evidence to support the charges which includes a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, commonwealth attorney's office Spokesperson Amanda Howie said. Then the article went on a reaction by her lawyer of the charges, a little bit into the reason of all this or the back story, and finally she was cleared of all charges at the end. America, what do think of this story. Was she was just being a mother who was concerned about her daughter being bullied? Or was she out of line as an adult to get surveillance of another child to prove a point? I got to say, this one is tuff. But I want to hear from you all, so let's talk about it.

All Replies Will Be Returned...!
Thank You All

EyeAmYourHost39,

America, I'm play God's advocate 4 a minute, I think getting audio surveillance on her daughter's bully is a good ideal as long as its for just as a prevention and not to post on social media to defame a elementary child. Do I think charges be brought to her, no.....do I think she should been a little more careful about how to deal with a childhood bully...Maybe! Bottom-line is her intensions wasn't wrong.....had it been my daughter being bullied well I teach my kids when they was little the mastery of karate & taekwondo.

She was both.
A) a mother who was concerned
B) out of line in her tactics.

A give her credit for being concerned, that shows true love for her child's well being.

You can't turn a blind eye as to what is happening in todays day and age. Children are killing themselves.. committing suicide because of being bullied. be it at school or thru social media.

It is a big problem.. getting bigger.

And the fact is you really don't know what goes on in schools.. in the hallways, cafeteria, ect.

we had a kid here in NYC 2 weeks ago, shot and killed 2 fellow classmates.. in school. He claimed he was constantly being bullied by them. It was middle school. All those involved were .. 15 yrs old.

But not to take away from your topic, but I feel the biggest problem is bullying on the social media sites that these kids have access to... no controls what so ever there.

Greeneyes148,

Hello & welcome, I will acknowledge she was only trying to prevention method but the media made her to look like she was extreme. I guess every parent has ways to handle a bullying situation. when I was coming up , when times was simpler we would have the options either talk to the other parent & come up with a solution, get the principle involved, or rumble it out. But times are different, its more crazy. kids is packing guns to school to handle bullies. That way is scary because lives can be affected...look at Columbine High!

The media s a business fueled by money generating commercials. Built on selling.. hype.

People need to see thru that and build their opinions on their thoughts.

But I agree. when I was growing up, mother and fathers would handling it.. and their kids behavior or we would settle the score in the school yard.. win or lose.. no guns.. no knifes.

But times are different now

MIghtyMoe,

in Texas, you can film/record anyone in a public setting... A felony for recording her child at a public school? Absolutely wrong...they are trying to hard to keep parents out of touch from what's being taught or what's happening in the schools now....

Waaaaait a minute here. People bring "recording devices" to classrooms all the time. College kids record lectures. Most kids have cell phones and or some kind of computer in class. I can't believe they charged this woman with illegal wire tapping. There's got to be more to the story.

Also, bullying in schools, which has been going on since school was invented, has come to national attention lately because of a number of child suicides blamed on bullying. We had one here just last week.

Like I said, there has to be more to the story.

And just as and aside "I Am", while you're in school, put the dam Android down and use the time to brush up on your English grammar skills.

Well in my state pf Pennsylvania the school system is crap. The buget for Philly schools are low, so bullying is small compare to a big problem. Kids now all on social media. So it makes it a little difficult to focus on one child needs here in PA.

I think there shouldn't have been charges. When I was in school parents were welcome to come 'sit in' anytime, school should not have anything to hide from the public or the parents while the children are there.

If parents are free to come and go, why is a recorder for the same purpose(parents observation) any different I wonder?

Here is the story to read it brings a bit more details... like the fact the mother...had reached out to the school several times about her concerns and yet the school would not respond to her....

So hell yea I would send a recorder in the back pack to see...

But now makes me wonder why was the school checking her back pack?? Without a cause or thinking the mother was going to prove them wrong they should have not even been looking in the child's backpack!whoa

After charges was brought against her by the school even the judge dismissed it....

The mother should bring charges against the school for not taking care of the situation of her daughter being bullied and instead they ignored her pleas to help.

Greeneyes148,

Yes the media would be the last outlet for exposure to a crime, or at least the innocent in this case. i hope this lady can move on with her life.////

MOtownDowntown,

You hit the nail on the coffin, yeah I think the schools should correspond with the parents. try to come up with solutions to a time bomb problem.

TxsGal3333,

You brought a good point , why was the mother was checked? was it suspicion on her behave? was a form of profiling on a smaller scale?

Ms Harmony,

I agree it should of been some changes. See this cyber bullying & school yard bullying has to be addressed. Too many of our children committing suicide or murders because of bullying.

Thanks for this. My first question was going to be for more details, particularly as to why the original incident happened at all.

I have, over the years, seen many cases where the people in authority, reacted by attacking the citizen who showed that they were incompetent and callous, rather than putting their energy in to correcting their mistakes.

I'm glad to see that the justice system actually did try to administer justice, instead of simply going by the letter of the law, and ignore the circumstances.

I hope this doesn't end here. If it is indeed true that the school authorities did ignore reports of bullying, thereby making this approach necessary, as is being reported so far, then the school authorities themselves need to be replaced with people who will do their jobs.

Hmmm mother was not checked. The child's backpack was checked that is where they found the recorder. The story did not tell if it was reported cause she told someone or if they checked it on their own. Just saying if they checked it without cause then it proves she had reported the problem and told them she would find out herself.. Therefore they are covering their own azz. I hope if that is the case she sues the hell out of them.... As far as profiling you need to explain where your taking that first before I respond...
