After day 22 of the partial government shutdown the democrats are still playing the game of resist and deny. This is a tactic that is better suited for squabbling children or rival gangs. Not for the U.S.Congress. Why were the democrats all in on a barrier three years ago . Nothing has changed on the border with the exception of it being worse. But now it's all about Trump. Three reasons this is happening, #1 they don't want Trump to accomplish another campaign promise, ( so many so far) which explains why his base is still about 96% support. #2 they want to bring in foreigners and provide for them to win their votes. #3 they want the country to suffer a set back of some kind so they can blame Trump and he might lose the 2020 election. I happen to know we already have it, nothing has changed despite Trump snake oil alerts, and it is not a level of urgency WORTH holding up the paychecks of so many Americans. |

During all times of the year, many sources poll THEIR audiences or whatever and they get response from those who RESPOND. And at any given time, those different polls and source can come back with different percentages from those participants. That number is not close to all of my fellow citizens so those percentages are not representative of a statement about what half of all my 'fellow citizens' feel. I understand the concept of using bills to get one's own way. But the budget for the wall is not needed urgently enough to hold up the government or people's paychecks. It is also NOT what he campaigned when he claimed he could do it WITHOUT TAXPAYER MONEY. I would wager plenty of rich people and rich politicians would give up 1 or 2 percent of their income to appear noble in a push for their 'cause'. The truth is nearly EVERYONE wants 'secure borders'. The only debate is about whether they need to be more secure, what has happened that they suddenly need to be so urgently more secure, and what measures are needed and at whose expense. |

Congress (both parties) have been playing with immigration for years with very little accomplished. If the repubs and dems actually wanted to resolve the shutdown without Trump's support, they could do that. All it takes is agreement between enough members to make a veto proof majority. Based on the history of Congress, that isn't going to happen. I doubt that the House and Senate could even pass much of anything to reopen the government even if Trump agreed to sign it.
I have to believe it is mostly about politics with neither side willing to risk losing votes from their base in 2020. Until enough pain is experienced by the taxpayers, the shutdown will continue. I expect Trump would compromise for 2-3 billion for his barrier. |

I was taught in school, and by both of my parents and grandparents, to put away at least six months wages, (a year, even better) to cover your butt just in case of layoffs, injury, sickness, or anything that disrupts your paycheck. To displaced workers- Did you? If not, well hey, it sucks to be you. Lots of jobs out there, better go get one. I don't feel the least bit sorry for you because you were so short sighted. Besides, most creditors of government workers are cutting them some slack because of their situation. |

only those actually working the hours will eventually get paid furloughed number about 400,000 of the 800,000 affected by shutdown, they may choose to return their jobs with no backpay or not...it's up to them |

The House on Friday cleared a bill that would ensure back pay for federal workers missing paychecks as a result of the partial government shutdown, as well as guarantee payment for employees affected by any future closures.
The measure passed with broad bipartisan support, 411-7. All seven votes against the bill came from Republicans. ADVERTISEMENT "On the first day that some of our federal employees will miss their paycheck, Congress is saying and guaranteeing that workers will be paid not only for this shutdown, but God forbid if we have any future ones, that their pay will be guaranteed," Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Friday.
