eeeeeeewwwww windows vista! lol, sorry. i wont get that for a nother few years when they get all the bugs out. How much ram do you have? you may have too many background programs running.

Wow, you have two critical issues. Vista and Limewire. remove them both and start over. Don;t use any "peer to peer" programs (like Limewire, Kazaa, etc) because then you open yourself up to everything and anything out there.

Thats the best advise i can give. happy

OK, uninstall Limewire and then go to your Control Panel, find the Security settings, and reactivate your firewall because you don't need to turn off the one built into Windows. I'm fairly certain this problem of yours is a deal with the antivirus you're running, which should be easy enough to fix. Just get into the program, look for your preferences/settings and find out what's going on with the firewall. If you have an additional firewall, kill it.

Now, you'll have to reboot (to reset the registry) and then re-install Limewire (ugh...then reboot) and then run it. It should work fine. If not, screw it, use BitTorrent because Limewire is how all those poor bastards get busted by the MPAA and the RIAA anyway. BitTorrent's a bit of a safer way to be a pirate!

Hope that helps.

1. The problem isn't Vista .
2. The problem isn't Limewire .

If your using a DSL , Cable Modem or a router there are built in firewalls that will cause a problem .

You can open the port Limewire uses on your router .

If you use limewire be sure you have some good spy ware checkers cause limewire is rife with that garbage. I used to never have a clean scan till I got rid of it and started to use bittorrent.

You my still be able to use limewire. Go to your control pannel then Security Center -> Windows Firewall -> Change Settings -> Acceptions Tab -> make sure that its allowing the program in there. He's right though, you should use bit torrents, less spyware and viruses. http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ theres a bit torrent client. Use isohunt.com to look for torrents to download.

Don't use any of that crap.. Try Utorrent Look it up in Google and do the newest dl.. And if you have trouble getting it to download, turn on encryption. It is the safest thing that I have found. I have used noting else but ktorrent on my Linux machine. But for windows use utorrent. and search mininova.org for your files.. Enjoy!!!

I am on Vista w/no active firewall , virus or spyware protection . I use limewire and have had NO issues . I've used limewire for 4 years .
I download all the music , movies , software I could possibly want . It's all in paying attention to what you are downloading .

Brandy, you disable windows firewall and it auto blocks all ports. End of story.

To the guy up there, Utorrent does the exact same thing as azureus accept for azureus uses a "dissemination theory" of torrents.

For all of the P2P fans out there, Utorrent is the rule of the roust. It is the most awesome, in that it is highly configurable, and connects to any network, Fast connections, and port forward capable. No spyware like limewire, no system overhead, and runs on cross platforms like windows and Linux.
Utorrent = A ++

Written for the windows desktop, Easily runs in Linux using Wine.
