It’s Friday the 13th.....are you superstitious about this day, or do you have other superstitions such as broken mirrors, spilling salt, walking under ladders, black cats, ....what

I am definitely not one bit superstitious about any of these things noway

No because I was born on the 13th and sometimes it landed on a Friday. I would want my birthday to come if I thought like that.

Friday the 13th has usually been a lucky day for me so I tend to get excited about it laugh

I don't really have any superstitions anymore. I used to with broken mirrors, black cats, and walking under a ladder. I tested all of them one day and nothing bad happened, so I figured it was mostly all in our heads, haha.

I still won't walk under a ladder for some reason. I never knew what that one was about until just now when I googled it. But, I think it has more to do with safety as to why I don't.

I am a little supertitious, Dee. Friday the 13th not so much, but breaking a mirror.. now, that will bring you bad luck for seven years! so be very very careful with mirrors. bigsmile

I definitely am not superstitious with black cats. My sister had an all black cat and he was great. He died a couple years ago of old age. I've heard that animal shelters have a hard time adopting out black cats because people think they are bad luck.

It's only bad luck, if you step on a black cat.

They remember things like that.
And, you're gonna have to sleep, sooner or later.

Hello, teeth. Hello, claws. laugh

Also, I've heard that animal shelters don't want to adopt out black cats around Halloween time. There are are groups of people that use those cats in rituals. It's not good for the cat.

i try to remember friday 13th
so i don't end up like the Templar's
or the 5th of November
<shrug>
or the recently added 9-11
any who

dont walk under a ladder ,
makes sense norm means someone is worken above or on it , can drop somethen , or ya could knock them off the ladder
just makes me look, i still walk under them : )

broken mirrors
yeah i am not a fan of broken glass , and for real if its old style glass
brings ya 7 years bad luck , yeah , be lucky if ya find all the glass shards in 7 years

the salt one , prob the best marketing scheme back in to times to have people buy more of it
<shrug>

saying bad things about black cats
was that racism
hhhmmmmm

I’m always on the lookout for werewolves during a full moon,
does that count?

I think that most of these things once had some significance a long time ago but because we no longer remember what, they've just been passed down as unlucky things to do or happen. Not walking under ladders is fairly obvious, no one likes to be brained by falling objects. happy But to answer the question, no I'm not superstitious about today or anything else for that matter.

That's too bad. I've had a couple, smartest cats I ever had. One black cat breed, Bombay, are very exceptional. (All black, small frame, copper colored eyes) They tend to want to be around people, and bond well to their owners.

That's what I thought too... How wrong I was, haha. (Both my cats are mostly black, one almost 100%)

I can be superstitious, depends what about.
NOT black cats, I got one that is almost black, I wanted a 100% black one, couldn't find it.
The other day saw a litter offered online with a few black kittens, no one wanted them? What BS!!

Ladders... depends, more safety related, and often someone's painting, I don't want paint on my clothes.

Friday the 13th: I'm born on a Friday 13th which proves it's a good day smooched

There's the Templar story, but also it has to do with feminine energy and strength which wasn't wanted by church/patriarchal society that wanted to disempower the feminine that was previously respected and equal.

Friday is connected to Venus = Feminine
13 = feminine energy related due to there being 13 full moons and a woman also having 13 moons (periods) and these are naturally in sync with the cycle of the moon.
Friday the 13th used to be a special day as it combined both Friday and 13.

*I do say 'feminine' not 'women'. Men too have feminine energy, the Yin in Yang.

Unfortunately, I think that the black cat superstition relates to the witchcraft trials. Any cat that was entirely black was killed and that's why completely black cats are still so rare.

Yes, that's why black cats are still feared. Go figure how deeply embedded these things from the Inquisition are. We carry that in our cell memory and through ancestors.
Many people who live now have themselves been convicted in a previous life and thus killed in an unpleasant way.

The black cat goes back further than that though. Ancient Egyptians also worked with cats, and I believe mostly black ones, as did the Atlanteans before that in their temples. They were considered sacred and if memory serves ancient Egyptian even built temples in dedication of them.
Cats have specific powers, very intuitive, and in black ones this is stronger.
In witchcraft this is called 'familiar', a magickal helper, although it could be any animal. Another well known one was the frog or toad.

Yes, I agree- we carry these half-remembered lives and fears in our genes so we react to certain things without realising why. The Egyptians really loved and venerated cats and even went hunting with them. As I think I said somewhere else, one of the few things I believe ( without being able to prove it) is that cats have a powerful telepathic ability.happy
