So I sent a Merry Christmas text that was meant for individuals but I forgot to uncheck the group conversation box that for someone reason is default checked when I add contacts to a message. Many of these people do not know each other. I've had four people request I remove them from my contact list. Ooops!

Has anyone else ever done this or am I the only idiot? embarassed

No, you're the only idiot. tongue2

Kidding! biggrin

I'm not crazy about group chatting so don't use it. When I first got my phone number it was apparently still in some stranger's group calls, it drove me crazy until I was able to block all the numbers.

I don't understand why the default is group. I wanted to send holiday greetings to individuals on my contact list since sending one text is easier than twenty.

It's incredible how irritated a couple of people got. A few took the opportunity to say Merry Christmas to strangers, but a few were very agitated.

Contact deleted!

I'm not sure, I'm not that tech savvy. The couple times I did send holiday greetings as one text to both my sons, it automatically put them in a group. Maybe one of them in your contacts was attached to a group and that's why?

With all the scammers out there, I can understand why they'd get rude getting a message from someone they don't know. But yes, it would have been nice if they weren't so rude, since it only happened once.

After you add the contacts and create a message there is a box that needs to be attended to. It is the box that determines whether or not the conversation is a group or individual texts. The default is checked which signifies a group conversation. Maybe I was a little buzzed and forgot to uncheck the box. laugh

Didn't even know you could text (SMS) to a group. No one uses SMS anymore here. I know with WhatsApp you can send a message to plural people, or start a group, but even then I have to look how that worked again. And people have to consent to be in a group.
I'd check my phone settings if it automatically does a group thing. Maybe Iphone is different. (Most here use Android.)

If I was to share the responses of one particular (former) contact you would understand that holiday spirit is an, ummmm, individual thing...

I just took a look at the settings and indeed there is a way to turn off the automatic group chat.

You could tell them what I said to a grumpy old lady in the store the other day. She was giving me dirty looks and huffing because I was taking too long looking at the meat. I just smiled and told her to smile, it's a beautiful day.

She actually said, Okay and smiled! biggrin
