Good luck river .
Personally I think you are doing the right thing , that’s the choice I would have gone for too and what I would have suggested to you as I felt like your heart wasn’t really into the managerial position not like it seems to be in doing the other kind of stuff .
And sometimes you gotta do what your heart and gut feeling is saying , even though more money for the other option is a good thing of course , but sometimes it’s not always about the money, cus you gotta think about your happiness too and which you would feel better suited to . Xxx

Thanks moomin flowerforyou  The huge cut in pay did have me blinded a bit, haha. But what good would all that extra money be if I'm too busy to spend it and miserable. Hmmm, duh... savings! *laughing* But it's not all about money. And I have faith that the Universe will provide me with everything I need, it always does! happy

Holy cow, so my meeting with the owner and her niece (I thought it was her daughter, but she's her niece) went really well. They fired the manager today, and introduced me to the new manager. She's phenomenal, a manager from one of the other stores.

They are happy for me, and still want to promote me to assistant manager, with my current hours and a pay raise, haha. Plus, they want me to take my week's paid vacation before I leave for Wyoming. And if I ever come back here, a job will be opened up for me.

I am truly blessed!!! I still get the assistant manager title on my resume, and a vacation before I leave. Their kindness and awesomeness kind of made me want to stay... but I'm still going! Provided the interview goes well that is. And I'm leaving the store in good hands. I was feeling a tad guilty for leaving with the store being a mess. Today was awesome energy in the store. The owners stayed the whole day, along with the new manager, and we all worked our tails off to turn things around and make it a better store. I'll definitely miss them when I go.

I'm ecstatic, haha. I was willing to sacrifice a lot of pay and status to follow my heart by taking the entry level position, and ended up being rewarded with a managerial position and more pay. That's so cool.

It's way sooner than I expected. The general staff begins mid May, early June. My position starts on April 14th. That's barely enough time to get the things done that I need to do before leaving. I decided to leave my car behind and fly there. They have an employee shuttle that goes all over the place, and if I want to explore more off property, I can always rent a vehicle. They insist their employees only work 40 hours so they have time to play. So exploring on my days off will definitely be possible.

I'll be there for six months. The altitude is 2093m / 6867feet, a couple thousand less than where I was with the YMCA, but it will still take a little getting used to again. The only downside is that mid-summer, I might get a roommate. But with being an assisted manager, they try to avoid doing that. I'll be on the list of the last people who have to share a room. They have a dorm that's called the "quiet place", for the less rowdy people. They already know that's where I want to be, haha.

That sounds wonderful and right up your street. Exciting days ahead for you. Hopefully you’ll have enough time to pack what with you still working at the grocery store.

Eric is sure gonna miss your home cooking and baking laugh

I sincerely hope that the job is everything you want it to be

Thanks, I'm sure it will. I'll make it so! happy

Haha, yes he will! He'll be going back to sandwiches for dinner, lol. He's also going to keep his eyes open for a more economical vehicle for me. So I just might have a different car for my next journey.

Now that the store has decent management, I'll only be working til the end of the month. That will give me about ten days to organize, and the chance to stop in Tennessee on the way, to see Stu. It will be nice to see him again. And save me from spending the night in an airport. All the flights from here to Wyoming are overnight flights. I don't care to do that again, haha.

Everything is tying up so nicely. I’m sure Stu is looking forward to seeing you again too. Such a shame it’s only going to be for a short time though.

Now that would be spoiling him a little too much laugh I'm going to try. I'll make him a couple weeks worth of lunches and a few bake goods to pop in the freezer. And if time permits, I'll do some spring cleaning before I go.

I also need to visit the eye doctor to get new glasses, go to the dentist, meet with the insurance agent so I can switch my benefits from employee benefits to individual benefits... we just got benefits at work, but I get to take them with me when I leave. And register for the covid shot, hopefully I'll be able to get that at the end of the month or the first week in April. Oh, and shop for an extra pair of jeans and other items I might need

Maybe Eric can clean his own house laugh

Congratulations, River!
40 hours a week is a lot but it means more money too. Hope you're going to enjoy the hell out of it!
I will keep my fingers crossed you won't get a roommate, haha.

What's the average hours in the workplace there? Here 40 hours is the norm for a fulltime job. I average 43 at my current job, so three extra hours to play will be nice, haha.

Yes, please keep crossing your fingers, I will too, haha. I'll do some serious chanting too. . Omm, no roommate, omm, omm, no roommate, omm laugh

I'm sure if I do end up with one, it will be for a higher purpose

It is hard for me to stay excited about a job if it is less than 40 hours. It only becomes exciting when it becomes my life. That is just me. But it is very important to stay unstressed and relax when not at work. Otherwise it can cause stress and anxiety, which erodes the mental strength, skill, and longevity.

Ah, now I get why you wrote "only 40 hrs".
Over here fulltime is 36 or 38 hrs a week for most, some places still 40 like it used to be everywhere in the past. Depends on the collective agreement for that sector.
We had working time reduction introduced in 1982 in an attempt to decrease unemployment numbers among youngsters in the 80s. Didn't work though, hihi.
