Watched the event of Amazon's Jeff Becoz go up into space , in an odd shaped (?) rocket . Congratulations on earning the title of Astronaut...
I am sure millions of dollars were spent to achieve this milestone ...
Question is ..... was it worth it to humanity ???

I suspect you mean Jeff Bezos? Who cares about the millions? He's the richest man on Earth! He's got a whopping 203 BILLION dollars!
And after Amazon, which he has dumped, he's focusing on space travel. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Depends on his agenda behind this. If he's part of the ones in power behind the screens, part of the Big Tech, Big Pharma etc. mob, than I'm not happy about it. These ppl effed up life on our planet, we don't need them to do the same to space.

There is a petition people can sign,
with the intent of not allowing Bezos
to return to Earth.

I'm sure, such petition holds no 'force of law'.
But, I'm still tempted to sign it.

Aside from my quips...
I am quite pleased that somebody
is actually doing something, that
may eventually benefit all of
humanity.
I wish him safe journeys.

Even if, it is that Jeff Bozo guy. grumble

Yes in a way it is good to explore space travel. I'd rather they'd explore other means of getting into space though, other than burning lord knows how many litres of fossil fuel.
That's all I think of whenever I see a rocket go up: why? The pollution is terrible. Nor is it a way that we can go into space and explore. Which at the same time is a good thing as we're not ready for that at all. As long as we cannot even take proper care of life on Earth, live peacefully without war and aggression and oppression, we shouldn't.
So if we can't really get into space yet... I consider that a good thing. For now.

I just think money like that could be spent on helping people who really need it ........

Last I knew, rocket fuel was oxygen and hydrogen. But, I'll bet the hydrogen came from natural gas. So the rocket itself wasn't polluting as it ran. Any before it got pumped in the tanks, that's another story.

Thanks Cat ...i was beginning to think I was the only one to think that way !!
seriously , that was a huge amount of money wasted ... for what ... to feed one ego or to compensate for the loss of a woman or simply to compete with another ego manic like Branson ???

I actually felt the same way upon hearing this the other day. But in listening to an interview
Bezo’s did before the flight, he agrees with you. He feels helping future generations with
space exploration will in addition help the Earth.

His is huge supporter of philanthropy, donating $100m to Feed America, and $10B to
his Earth Fund. Now if we could just get his to pay his fair share of taxes. :)

I do not know the purpose of the flight, but congratulations and thankfully everyone returned to earth safely and enjoyed the brief trip in to space. I thought this may have had something to do with developing future air travel, sometime ago I had read about future aircraft, or spacecraft really, being able to take off from an airport climb to near space altitudes and then return to land. This would require three different types of engine propulsion because of the lack of oxygen as height increases, but could result in a journey time of around 2 to 3 hours from London to Sydney, which currently is just over 19 hours non stop. That would be some achievement, but we will ever need to travel that fast, perhaps not.

I never really understood the need for space travel. First it was ego between the US and the USSR, based on Nazi knowlegde.
But... what if we get an invasion? Or something catastrophic is to happen, huge meteor for instance? We are totally powerless!
Just watch the movies. All we do is try to nuke whatever, and send a welcome-wagon heli which will get shot down. And nuking... if any race has the ability to get all the way over here from lord knows where, then their technology is vastly more advanced than ours. We can barely even get to the frigging moon?!
It is important for mankind's future, and also for our own advancement as a species.

As for food... ever thought about the BILLIONS and billions of dollars and food and people & doctor aid we have sent to poor countries over the past decades?
More likely trillions by now!
And people are still starving.
In most cases the ones in power in those countries are to blame as they don't value human life, they only value their own wealth, status and well-being.
Then we spend even more millions, billions, PER western country to accommodate the ones that flee to us. They get houses, cars, income, free healthcare, clothes, education...
Our social security and healthcare systems have been bled dry.
The problem isn't sorted.
There IS a limit to what we can do, even to what we should do.
The ones responsible have to do something about it, and that ain't us.

These countries need to sort out their own chit

Yes, all millionaires spend a helluva lot of money on charity and helping the planet and people.
They all have charities, often even start their own that they're passionate about. And where we can spend maybe $10, they can and do spend loads.

I'm starving.
I could really do with a cheeseburger, frenchfries,
and a large Barq's rootbeer.
