There was a study done back in the sixties about HUMAN TOUCH I remember this some babies were held, touched everyday they were happy, the other babies were not touched those babies just withdraw no giggles or smiles it was sad, we all need to be reached out to or we just withdraw so what's on your minds, Coldersky minus the halo,

I like this thread, Colder. We all have our days where we could use some friendship or acknowledgement. Yesterday was not a great day for me, but today I'm doing much better.

How are you doing today? flowerforyou

Makes me wonder what parent would allow their baby to be used for such a test, and even why they did it. Those babies that didn't get touched will never recover...

Human touch is very important and also what is often lacking in this world when you're single.

In China, during the one child policy, lots of baby girls were given to orphanages so that the parents could try again for a boy. Many of the baby orphans were never held and experienced failure to thrive. Very sad.

Yeah, it was like that in orphanages everywhere in the past. So sad... And China... shows how flawed that system is even though I understand the need. But they didn't get fewer people really, the place many grew up changed. Maybe they should've done a huge fine if the child was put into orphanage.

Yes. I lived in China for four years, it was my first international post. I learned that because of that policy, now there are a couple generations where there are far more men than women. Many are struggling to find marriage partners. It's very common for parents to set their children up. In the parks on the weekends, parents will go with photos of their child, along with a dossier, containing information about them, such as what they do for a living, what their parents do, etc. Parents of the males try to get dates for their sons. It's a very interesting dynamic.

My daughter fostered children who were neglected as babies by their parents. They were greatly affected by abandonment and all carried long lasting implications through to their adulthood. Nurture is so very important for young children and without it can leave them with psychological damage.

My daughter adopted one of these children when the child was 16 (after fostering her for many years). She’s now 24 and still has trust issues.

I've read about the lack of women too a while back.
I guess it'll all help reduce the numbers even more, unfortunately it could also increase levels of crime, aggression etc. when there are too many men, -without a woman at that.
Just shows that when man interferes with nature things go wrong. Good thing is, nature always restores itself.
At the very least it might restore woman's value and true equality.

That is so sad DI. I also fostered a 14 year old girl too, was heartbreaking to know what she had been through

I remember clearly saying when my baby was first put on my breast after she was born, "Now I know what it feels like to be a woman."
I was on morphine at the time because of a c-section, all my friends at the birth just laughed, but I was serious. That motherly nurturing had kicked in when pregnant and the full fruition was holding her in my arms.

When I was small and we had family gatherings I would hide behind my mother, as I was very shy. She would not comfort me, but would rather push me away. I guess I annoyed. Also, both my parents would show favoritism amongst us 5 siblings. It did affect me alot in ways to withdraw from society. I tend to be a loner with only a few friends.

Often you can find stuff done (experiments) on Mankind in the name of science, but for no discernable benefit, and in many cases the experiments are done without the guinea pigs even knowing....

Its very sad really, because the scientists could have thought to themselves, what would to me if I were placed in solitary confinement instead of experimenting on helpless children!!

It kind of reminds me of the US govt experiments during the cold War and run up to the cold War, where the government had these factories with huge chimney stacks, spewing out radiation/fallout to see what would happen... Naturally the towns where this occurred had a whole generation giving birth to deformed and ill children...:scream:

Some times I feel and think that we're not civilised at all... We're just animals with clothes on ....

Oh yes, after birth! Also the skin contact. SO important! I gave birth at home both times, and directly after the baby is born, umbilical still attached, my shirt was pulled up by the midwife, and my baby laid on my bare chest. Skin on skin, on my heart smooched
Not cleansed first as you see in movies. Totally unnecessary and healthy for the baby to leave it, plus it is absorbed in a few minutes.
Baby was covered with a blanket over its back of course to keep it warm. But the front was skin contact with me.
Oh those glorious first moments!!

Thank you for telling your story! Brings back happy memories for me as well, hihi.

Sad isn't it. flowerforyou
I was also very shy and would do a similar thing when uncomfortable. My mother didn't really comfort me either now that I think of it. I think she didn't understand, and had gotten kind of annoyed, just as you say.
And in a way that's understandable as women in the past were damned busy too, not having the luxuries we now have of washing machines, vacuum cleaners etc. etc. So I can't blame her, but I think it did have an impact on me.
What I suffered from mostly is my mother not having enough time for me due to my epileptic sister who was ill an awful lot. That took up most of my mom's time. Again, cannot blame her for that, wasn't a bed of roses for her either and she had no choice. But that did hurt and affect me tremendously. To this day.

Gosh... lots of food for thought here!!

I think they must have no compassion or empathy. Even animal experiments are sick.

The thing I really cannot understand... mostly it was women that had to look after children in an orphanage. How on earth can any woman be so hotdanged cold and crude to children?
I've rarely heard good stories about orphanages, it was always horror, being locked up, getting hit, not enough food and so on, and certainly no love.
How can a woman do that? I know I sure as hell couldn't treat children that way.
