I believe a number of Mingle members are actually chat-bots. I got involved in a conversation in January that went very well with a "lady" who contacted me. Went on for several months. Seemed like a stable, intelligent woman with a good skill set. She may have been real but she ghosted me as soon as the conversation went to actual meeting.

Recently got involved with another a few weeks ago. Again seems like an intelligent woman with her life together. All seemed good until her history didn't seem to match up right and I couldn't find any public internet history. I now suspect she may also be a chat-bot. Time will probably answer that question.

I think it is going to be a common thing on dating and social media sites including video clips and video chats. The best advice: don't get emotionally hooked or share sensitive information until you have actually met IRL!!!! It is becoming more important for early, physical meeting. AI is making a new world of relationships. Enjoy the fun but protect yourself!

I do not like AI and relying on it to communicate with others is even worse. People are losing their real life communication skills to be popular on the internet. You never know what that program is really doing and it might start going in a direction that you do not agree with...but it looks like you saying it.

I am not sure if the profiles on here are AI or just scammers, but they do learn. They will bring up stuff that you told to a different profile so be care of what information you give out. I was just talking to one about listening to Frank Zappa, that profile went away and then a few days later a new profile popped up and started talking about how they were listening to Zappa...lol

the first one sounds a lot like a scammer.. her profile probably said she was close by but in reality.. 1/2 way around the world..

the 2nd one may well be real.. I can attest to the fact that I have ZERO internet presence other than here.. no FB, nothing.. when you google my real name.. you'll come up with millions of pages of anOTHER person who just happens to be famous laugh

this is all supposition of course.. but ya never know huh.. good luck with those you do chat with tho..

as for getting emotionally hooked OR sharing personal information? not a chance.. I've worked with cyber security companies and they taught me enough to be wary..

I'm with you GRB.. I am terrified of where AI can take us.. which can be to the brink of extinction IF we let it.. I have never used it for ANY reason in communications.. and totally agree with you where real life skills are being lost.. if you go ANYwhere.. look around you.. everyone pretty much has their eyes glued to the mobile phones.. alreay dis-engaging with the world around them.. which is sad.. now.. with AI as your "best friend" OMG who needs REAL people any longer.. everyone will just clam up and crawl into their shells and disappear from life.. period!

when I get the odd email (other than actual real "friends" on here) from others.. 1st email is typically "hi, how are you" my reply? "I'm good.. is that it?" straight to the point.. they usually come back with "do you have a number I can text? we can get on google chat (or whatever)" my reply? "we're here now.. it's free.. we don't have to go somewhere else so, it's here or nowhere" last guy said "then good luck with all the dishonest people here" my reply? " like YOU??" blocked! chu bye laugh

AI and chat-bots are getting to where they are capable of communicating significantly better than many of the scammers. They can make you believe you are actually chatting with an intelligent, worthwhile person. Thus it is or will be a scammer tool.

A lot of people can not understand my phone, it looks like a smart phone but all it does is make calls. Not internet and even the texting is blocked...lol I turn off or delete most of the stuff that came on the phone because I am not going to use it. Now my battery will last over a week without needing a charge though...lol

The AI has the ability to learn so I feel like we are just training the terminators that are about to come...lol We are already showing them what buses, crosswalks, bridges, and cars are in those security pictures...lol

offtopic I remember you mentioning that in another thread.. I use mine only for calls when absolutely necessary.. usually when I'm out and about and my kids call me.. and the only ones that text me are my kids.. oh yeah.. I found my 1/2 sister (I was adopted) and I text with her AND her dad text's with me cuz he's deaf.. but I hear ya.. only reason I have the danged thang is cuz my eldest insists on keeping tabs on me AND pays for it.. otherwise I'd not have any..

I did the Ancestry DNA during COVID and found out that my father (who I never met) had 5 other kids with different moms. I am the youngest of that bunch...so far...lol But we use the facebook to keep in touch.

I don't like the whole development of AI and the speed with which it is becoming normal to use.
Even my 85 year old stepmother was using it for fun to create funny vids with it? She was laughing and enjoying it, me thinking "have you no awareness of the risks of this stuff?"

My son has a paid-for AI thing from Elon Musk I think it was. The stuff that can create is totally amazing?
It clearly is big business.

I have heard of chatGPT half a year ago and didn't even know what it was.
Then my daughter advised me to use it for a photo I wanted to use as reference for a painting but it wasn't exactly what I wanted.
So I indeed used chatGPT and was flabbergasted by what it could do.

I have used the AI version of Matthew Hussey, dating coach, when he offered it for free for 14 days.
I did get solid advice from it, gave me a lot of insight about certain things in my love life.
I am not a fan of this app though. It wasn't until after I used it that I thought of how ridiculous it is and also don't like that a well-known dating coach like Matthew Hussey offers it.
Makes it clear in one go he's about making money.

When I do a Google search on something I get an AI summary? Yet I have not even switched on the AI mode???
All this chit is taking over the world.

As for using it in communication or creating content... never done that and never will.

A friend of mine was using an AI program -forgot the name of it- to create so called art. Many others did the same and many even sold it for lots of money.
To me that is not art but fake chit. Doesn't deserve the name "art" as far as I'm concerned.

It's just scary. The ones with money -and power- use it to gain more money & power. And people will fall for it if you spoon-feed the chit with the label 'entertainment'.
By the time it could pose a serious threat it's on everyone's phone. Except for mine.

What are your thoughts?
Would you use a Chatbot?
DO you use AI tech to create content?
What do you think the future of AI has for us?

Would I use a chatbot?
Most people already do, even if they don’t call it that. Anything from drafting messages, getting explanations, planning, coding help, or even brainstorming ideas counts. The real question is how you use it—like a tool for speed and clarity, not a replacement for thinking.

Do I use AI to create content?
Yes, a lot of modern content already is AI-assisted in some form: writing, marketing copy, images, video editing, even music ideas. The strongest use cases aren’t “AI does everything,” but “AI helps you produce more, faster, and refine ideas you already have.”

What do I think the future of AI holds?
A few grounded trends are pretty likely:

Everyday integration: AI becomes as normal as spellcheck or GPS—built into messaging, search, email, and apps.

Personal assistants get real: Not just answering questions, but handling tasks like scheduling, booking, negotiating services, managing routines.

Content explosion: Easier creation means more content—so taste and authenticity become more valuable than volume.

Work reshaping, not full replacement: Some jobs shrink, some change, and new ones form around oversight, creativity, and strategy.

Trust becomes the big issue: Knowing what’s real vs generated becomes a major challenge, so verification tools will matter more.

The interesting shift is this: AI won’t just be a “tool you go to,” it’ll become something embedded in everything you already do.

Honestly I don't use any of those and don't plan on it....

One of my nephews uses the A1 he likes it... Maybe it is for the younger generation for I have no desire to use those things at least not till I'm forced too..

Many are using the A! to generate their resumes. It does make the resumes look great, but at times it makes one sound more experienced than they really are..

It is sad that so many are using these type of things as their friends etc They carry on full conversations with a computer generated friend.. That is sad to me..

my personal opinion is.. NO THANK YOU!

I turn off the AI assistant when writing my emails.. I got it.. thanks.. I don't need some 'robot' telling me what I'd like to say..

I don't use any form of AI either, no chat boxes, nada.. yes.. when I do a search the AI assist pops up.. I ignore it.. or click the X to remove it whenever possible.. I have a mind thank you very much AND I know how to use it.. if it's TOO easy.. it's not worth any effort at all and with the youth today already being lazy (for the most part) thinking now will become a thing of the past.. the brain muscle will die out and we'll all become robotic thinkers.. NO THANK YOU!

Imagine.. the average IQ is between 85-100.. with AI.. that average will no doubt drop drastically.. scary to think the world will become stupider than it currently is.. (no offense to anyone in particular.. just stats lol)

with chatbots becoming mistaken as personal friends to some.. there has been those who've taken their own lives (by suicide) thru the encouragement of those impersonal bots.. there was one company even sued because of that exact reason.. if you don't believe me.. look for yourself..

AI being as useful as spellcheck or GPS? You must have a lot better version of those than I have seen here. Earlier I mistyped language and it wanted to replace it with luggage?...lol Spell check does not catch the their-there-they're difference so it leaves a lot to be desired. It is only as good as the programming and you do not know for sure what they are putting in there or trying to leave out. GPS is even worse, telling you to go straight when you come to a T in the road...lol

GPS??? never used it.. I was in a friends car once that had the GPS on.. I told the driver to turn left, cuz I knew exactly where we were going.. the danged GPS said to turn right.. dead end road, then we approaded another stop, GPS said to turn right again.. no right only river..

as for spellcheck? if I question a word I'm using I type the word into my browser.. it gives me the correct spelling AND it's definition..

ahhh yes.. most of you geeks use yer phones.. I however use a desktop so I don't get those goofy "spellcheck" errors unless I'm texting my kids.. luckily I know how ta spell.. fer the most part laugh

My experiences with GPS are fairly positive. It saves me a lot of thought (since my brain capacity is severely limited, I try to think as little as possible).

Of course, we have to take GPS with a grain of salt. At times, the maps that GPS uses are badly out of date; this may account for the problems you encountered.
