that's what i got from one of his comments. i just gave my opinion on
the topic. if i get into a discussion i'll have to go back and read all
the comments so that i keep it straight. i prefer the conversations but
not everyone does on here.

The problem with not reading what's already there is that you don't know
what points have already been covered. Granted a fresh view gives a
different insight into a point but some people don't like to rehash.

yeah but alot of these are not conversation pieces. just to post your
opinion, so i did. after going back and and reading all of them i still
feel the same way but i completely understand the points that you and
fanta made. i believe in a draft and i would definitely go but unlike
some of the people who want to send the deadbeats and lazy m.f'ers i
would do like you commented on and raise the standards for entrance. i
completely agree with the moral issue but if you think about it moral
gets pretty low even with volunteers just based on the fucked up
situation that they are in and someone who was not in it to win it would
not make it.....or we could put my other suggestion to a vote and spin
the world into anarchy and let the losers fend for them selves instead
of letting good people die for their stupid asses lol.

We went into Afghanistan with the determination to make a difference.
The troops we have there still feel the same today. They showed one
group on the news here who'd been caught in by a roadside ied and
they're raring to go back.

Read it and had already heard of OpFor. Must be fun using the bad guys
toys. So answer a question for me. Is AK clack really that loud?

We had to qualify and be as proficient with the AK as we were withe
M-16! The AK is not a very accurate weapon! I'd take a M-16 anyday!

We start talking about toys of the trade and we really get off subject.
But I heard that the Israeli Galil combines the best of both to make for
a truly fine weapon.

Actually thought of way to satisfy both sides. Keep a volonteer force
with a supplemental draft. Do the crime, join the armed forces. Drops
the number in prisons, may have effect on crime rate bring up number of
troops. Not enough of them to affect morale of troops.

That brings up the discipline problem, again!

Not really. Keep the 'draftees' as REMF's and let the guys who want to
be there do their the jobs they trained for.

you want to hear them!

listen.

I served with many people who were ""Potheads""
and I served when the military started mandayory urinalis!
so I was there as the weeded out the potheads and served with the new
drug-free army! The first time they did a piss test 90%,yes 90% of the
test came back positive! All ranks, none were immune!
Now the differnce's that I noticed were my own:

The soldiers in the new army had no imagination, no willingness to take
inititive! Which in the Infantry is very important!

I also notice that they were like a bunch of sheep, these drug-free
recruits of the new army! More willing to follow! Was that better, or
just due to the lack of imagination?
They also appeared a weaker group! Not as tuff in the way of being able
to withstand extreme conditions like physical hardships and weather
conditions! I dont really know why, but they seemed to wine a lot more!
This ability to withstand hardships is also a good trait amongst
Infantrymen! At lest then, before all the modern technologies!
These are just a few of my observations during the army's transition!
Never once did I test positive for drugs and survived ""The cut"". If I
had to choose which army was a better meaner fighting force I would go
with the old! ""The Potheads""

Sorta makes one wonder why the gov't didn't do it's own comparative
study. However your personal observations do certainly give food for
thought.
One reason for the drug free may be because creative thinking leads to
disobedience of orders.

The Army can invent ways to maintain obiedience to orders!
I dont think that had any thing to do with it!
In the old army we enlisted were a team! us against them attitude!
Never tell on your buddy or let him down!
But you obey orders to a t!
because of pride that you were an american fighting man!
A Professional!

Now all of a sudden that trust in your buddy was gone!
People would narc on you just to enhance their position!
Kiss Ass bunch of sissy boy's!
Not good attitude for an Infantry Platoon
