I remember my grandmother teaching me to read when I was 2. She had one of those old "Run, Spot, run" books from when my aunt was in school.

I still remember one of the stories from that book. Sally had a teddy bear named Tim, and Tim got left in the car when Dad took it to the garage, and they put the car on a hydraulic lift, and Sally was mortified because Tim was lifted so high up into the air.

I don't know why I remember that particular story so clearly, but it's like I read it yesterday....

I was probably around four years old. I remember waking up really early and being determined that I was going to learn how to tie my shoes. My sister and I shared a room and so I took my purple shoes into the hallway and practiced and practiced until I finally got it right. Then I went and woke up my dad because I wanted to show him and him be sooooo proud of me, but he was mad I woke him up.
