Watching The Sands Of Time

I flip the hourglass over
For the umpteenth time today,
Missing you in my heart
Are you coming back to stay?
Watching the sands fall downward
As the time passes by,
Missing you is so hard
This, I won't deny.

Thinking of how we were
The day you left my side,
Someone I thought I knew
And to whom I could confide.
But there is a missing piece
That you stole from my heart,
The love I have for you
The love I thought, would never part.

This is the part of me
That misses you the most,
My love for you stretches
From coast to coast.
Will you come back to me?
Will you ever want to be mine?
While I sit her watching
The depleting sands of time.

It is hard to get past that last lump of sand at times it seems to keep filtering through and reminding our hearts what we miss. They say time will cure it but in reality it seems it is when another turns the sand of time over for you is when those thoughts finally seep out. flowerforyou

Sand in an hourglass....D-I-V-O-R-C-E....that terrible word that frees one person, and shatters the other. I remember watching a movie once, Under the Tuscan Sun, where the main character's husband left her for another woman. Her friends talked her into going on a tour of Italy where she ends up buying a vila in Tuscany. At one point she says,"The funny thing about divorce is that it doesn't actually kill you.....it should, but it doesn't".......and later on, her friend is there, pregnant and having been abandoned by her mate, and looks at her, taking large gasps between sobs and asks her, "How do you breathe again?"

Healing, like sand in an hourglass, takes time my dear friend....to those who read the poem.......VERY BEAUTIFUL and heartfelt....flowerforyou

Thank you Micky my dear...depending on the size of the hourglass too. A little timer one, noooo...one like the Wicked Witch had in The Wizard of Oz, now that's the one to have. When you flip it over, it would be neat if the sand that falls, builds a foundation for your future.

But there is a missing piece
That you stole from my heart,

When something is given has it really been stolen? Misappropriated, probably.
It makes sense to give away only what you can afford to lose.
And there is always an abundance of love, isn't there?
Too much of the time we are stuck in time.

Excellent poem. Universal meaning. Personal grief.
