If the dog is used to having you all to his or her self and someone new enters the picture there can be jealousy. Sometimes the dog can think your SO is hurting you if they aren't used to seeing you being physical with another human. They will get used to it.

That’s actually true. I saw an episode of the "Dog Whisperer" that addressed this very issue. It is part of their pack mentality and they also can view your mate as a new member of the pack who is superseding their placement. You do not want to comfort that behavior but instead make a "sssss" sound and nip it in the bud or it can become worse or intensify. Hopefully this dog is not a biter normally?

i had a girlfriend once
her cat mauled all her friends
she warned me:

"do not try to approach the cat"
and i wasn't really much of a cat person

so, i ignored her (the cat)
and it drove her crazy. she wanted to be near me
every time i came over. eventually, she came and
sat on my chest and pushed her paw gently against
my chin. my girlfriend walked in "OH MY GOD"
was all she said...as she ran to get the camera.
she showed that picture to everbody. no one could
believe it!!

noway

that cat loved me. she was very smart and
playful and unbelievably aggressive - saw
her chase off toms 3 times her size and strut
back SO proud of herself.

bigsmile bigsmile bigsmile

with me she'd ride on my shoulders, walk on
a leash, and run out on the balcony and jump
on the railing and wait for me if she heard
me coming. we played tag in the apartment and
loved to totally attack and brutalize lures
of any sort. what a huntress. everybody else
thought she was a psycho-kitty hey hey hey...

but she was crazy sweet to me!
what the hell was up with that?

anyway, sometimes they come around....

Dogs are very perceptive creatures - they sense things that we cannot.

Chihuahuas are known for that, especially when older.

Would he rather a chihuahua bite or gator bite? laugh

Pack dynamics are interesting to watch among dogs and cats. Our chihuahua/yorky mix is very partial to the ex. Before the divorce she would not always listen to me. Now when I go over to the house she is my best friend. Comes right up to me, wants to sit in my lap, etc.(the dog, not the ex). I think that dog is trying to tell Peccy where his place is in the pack.laugh
