I have recently met a new guy...he's great, construction job, good personality, we get along great, except one thing. He confided to me that when he was 19 he was involved in a robbery with some neighborhood thugs..he told me it was not his idea that he was a follower back then..and that he was just sorta there in the car when "they" pulled it off..he said the cops came to him to question him at the time and he ratted them out, basically only the one guy went to jail, and the rest that were involved did not get any time. He had his record expunged for helping the police.. it was a "couple" corner mom and pop stores in his area he said and there was a gun involved...the guy who's idea it was is the one who went to jail..he was basically a criminal and the rest of them were stupid followers if you know what I mean...this guy is my age now...no other problems since that time..and he treats me great...i can see he has no criminal in him, basically your 53 y.o. guy with the everyday things we deal with, stress at work, etc..but nothing out of the ordinary...would I be smart to let this go? or dump him because of this?

Yep...Kids do "stupid" things, sometimes, surely doesn't mean he's the same person after 30 something years..Seems to me, that he's trusting you with all his "dirt"..lol...lighten up..I have raised kids..I have seen them "morph" into adults..finally...awhh....tears frustrated waving

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It was a long time ago and he seems to have changed. We've all made mistakes before. I'd appreciate the honesty most people wouldn't bother to tell you something that happened that long ago.

I think its very admirable that he was honest with you, none of us r angels, and we have all made mistakes in our life, not everyone tho, is honest about them, or thinks its relevant to share, yrs down the line with a new loved one.

If we judge our new partners cos of things that they done 30yrs ago, i think that makes a bigger statement about our unforgiving nature more than the original confession.

Embrace his honesty, its a great trait.

Uh, I doubt you have NEVER violated the law, most everyone has at one time or another. Since he didn't really hurt anyone, so doesn't seem to be a real vicious type, and it WAS so long ago that even the statute of limitations has tolled by now, I would chalk it up to "young and dumb", (like I was when I got conned into getting married at 18 LOL) and figure it was a learning experience, especially if he never did it again.

Not only was he dumb and young when this happened, HE WAS HONEST and obviously cares for you so HE TOLD YOU about it.
If it makes you feel better..... as some give you one "bad" thing in order to endear or have you think there's nothing else.... RUN A BACKGROUND CHECK.

exactly,, if you have any doubts or even if this is going somewhere with him... By all means run a background check.. start at 411.com and go from there....better safe then sorry later.. its saved my a$$ at least once.

#1 ) He's 53 years old and there has been no further criminal stuff involving him.

#2 ) He was actually honest enough with you to TELL you about it.

If you dump this guy because of him telling you, then I am going to have to rethink that whole thing about women wanting an honest guy.

See how things work out, maybe his innocence will prevail. At least give him a chance to prove himself first......slaphead Do not loose out if you judged him wronge, get the facts first! At least he is telling you the truth and that is a plus.flowerforyou

If he's given you no reason to distrust him, then I'd let this go and see what happens with him. If his record has been expunged, then he didn't even need to tell you about it. If you're concerned, you could run a background check, but it sounds unnecessary to me.
