If your closest and dearest friend was of the opposite sex and your significant other gave you the ultimatum, "Me or the friend", whom would you choose?

Waves goodbye to the one issuing an ultimatum.

I agree with you. Ultimatums are a definite relationship ender for pretty much any relationship.

Yeppers. Because once they start with one ultimatum they'll keep it up.

Unless you've given your SO reason to distrust you, he shouldn't be worried about who your friends are. It sounds like immature jealousy. I guess if it were me, I'd reassure him that me and my bff were just friends, nothing else, and if he continued to be a jerk about it, he'd have to go. You've known your bff longer than him and you have a history, that's worth more than a relationship with someone with trust issues. Just my opinion, without knowing the entire background story.

Why do people feel the need to issue one?

Do they really think that will keep a person around? By telling them they have no choice but to make a choice?

Because they've issued them before and the other person didn't call them on it. So they do it again and again.

Yes, they think they can force you to choose them. They're counting on you being so in love with them that what they want is more important than what you want. It's all about control and it's sick.

Btw, this is just a question.

I am not in a relationship nor seeking one since I am moving out of the country.

Just wanted to know how other people felt about their best friend.

it depends... on whether or not I gave my s/o a reason to give me the ultimatum or if he's just being a jealous possesive jerk.

When I am involved,,SHE IS ALWAYS HELD SPECIAL,,,over others,
and I would be offended if SHE DIDN'T hold that same value to me?

But the right woman isn't going to expect or demand that you give up other platonic women friends. That usually involves trust and security issues. Do you really want to be with someone you don't trust or who acts insecurely?

Same here. And he knows it. And he returns the same love and respect.

My best friend will always be closer to me than anyone else because there is no sex, I can tell him everything and not have to worry about if he will stop loving me, I can confide in him and I can ask him things only a male would know.

I don't know.

I just know I can unload everything onto him and run my love life by him and get his opinion without worrying he is just saying stuff to get into my panties.

That's why I love him.

How many people are closer to their best friend than to their family?

I'd always choose my best friend.

He's always there for me, especially when I need a laugh.smile2

That's why he's my best friend.

A best friend can go very far with you in life,,but when or if you chosed to marry s a mate,,,,then that best friend and you WILL LOSE SOME GROUND,,,because as their your best frind,,THEIR NOT YOUR LOVE OF THIS LIFE...
And personally I have NEVER had a best friend that was a woman,
as aposed to have this issue with through my marriages I have had.
No women would want to come home to ME always having ANY OTHER lady with me as WHY,,,when YOU love someone,,THEY BECOME your lifes BESTFRIEND...well,,THEY SHOULD?
