I've never dated outside my race before, as they say, but I am very attracted to white guys (I'm black by the way).Do you think people still have a problem with interracial relationships? If you are in one or have been in one, how did people act towards you?

Go for who you're interested in. Don't worry about what others think.

There is still a lot of prejudice out there.

You being in Alabama (or Texas, Mississippi, etc) would make it tough on you I think, IDK. I know it is more liberal in CA though.

in some places dating outside your race could get you killed. other places tolerate dating outside your race and even same sex dating. it can be educational and fun dating people of a different race, but it could also be hard work dealing with the differences if things become serious. explore the opportunities presented to you, don't let other people limit you, but be very aware of what is going on around you. if you get with someone outside your race, be sure you are in a place that will accept you both (and your children if you have any) good luck girl, and i hope you try a latino or two as well

Stare a lot at you. I've dated outside my race before and my last relationship of 3 years was interracial. The most uncomfortable thing for me was when people stared at us. He was a very affectioned guy also. He liked holding hands, and kissing in public. But I always felt people were looking at us. Of course some people still have a problem with it, but that's just the thing, it's their problem, don't let it become yours. If you care for one another that's all that matters.

Nowadays it's not a problem at all. Personally I find it exciting, black girls have got lots more going for them, they are more fun loving, more outgoing, more passionate. I'm happier being around black girls than whites.

Living in a black neighborhood, I have seen that black men and women have an issue with black women being with other races also just like white men or women so there will be idiots in all races.

If you find a person attractive no matter what their skin tone, you will only hurt yourself by not exploring it to see if it can be anything. If you end up with a friend that is still something.

What other people think, is their problem, not yours, let them wallow in their misery and anger over you having the time of your life!laugh

I wouldn't worry about it. If you like someone their color obviously doesn't matter to you so it shouldn't matter to anyone else, unfortunately there are those who take exception to this and for the most part they are just vocal but some are more than vocal. If you live in an area that is prejudiced then just keep your guard up.

I think it depends on where you live. I see you are from Alabama and I am also from the South so I think you might get a little more reaction here then say NY or CA. That being said don't worry about it. Date who you want. I am in an interracial relationship and its not my first. (though they were all asian not black) I got a bad initial reaction from my grandmother the first time I was dating an Asian. Anyway she met her and liked her. She was initially against it because my grandfather was in WWII and to her all Asians were Japanese and my gf was Chinese at that time.

If anyone has a problem about who you're dating, well they're just silly in my opinion. What's it to do with anyone else anyway? It's not like anyones opinion on it should matter. Why do people always want to butt in or cause trouble in others relationships? I've never got that. But i know it's very common.

I have dated a mixed race and I would date outside my race anytime. My circle of friends also prefer white guys and with very good reason too. The heart is not so smart and it goes where it should not go...yes, I am singing that song now...all the best.

Race is insignificant. It is barely biologically significant at all. IT is merely how our different human bodies adapted to our different environments. All 'races' are still human and the proof is in the beautiful human life they can create when they attempt to procreate.

I think people will stare at others and belittle others for all types of things.

Hairstyles, body shapes, behavior,,etc,,,, the difference being that 'race' is determined the moment we come out the womb and we have absolutely no say in it or control over it. If people want to have issues with what ancestors God chose for you, thats their issue. But I agree that love (as an emotion) is never wrong. How we act upon or behave with that emotion is a different matter, but something like Race is just a man made category to divide and conquer, many times it has worked, but you dont have to let it work in your own life.

Also a Cali girl, we simply did not experience
the racial diversity.
No life-long hatreds being passed from
generation to generation.
But, as B says, idiots reproduce, they find a
way to survive anywhere.

Younger generations don't seem to have a problem with such dating.
Perhaps it's because they see the stupidity of racism.

As for me, I'd be flattered if an attractive black woman wanted to date me. However, she might have some competition.

I have dated outside my race once or twice and never thought about it one way or the other nor did I ever think for a moment about what anyone thought - would not occur to me to care about the opinions of others regarding my personal life. I had an African BF from Kenya and we were very compatible! Otherwise I have dated mostly within my race - but not intentionally - don't really think about it

Thanks. You are encouraging me too and I know it will work out fine.
