Topic: Walmart Employees Being BIG Babies!

You couldn't pay me a million bucks to go shopping anywhere on Black Friday. Or the whole weekend following Thanksgiving for that matter.

As far as being open so employees have to work? I don't see the big deal. Cops, firemen, doctors, nurses, pilots....all these professions have to work the holidays. If some retailers want to be open then that's their right. Lots if people work holidays. No one has a "right" to be home for the holidays.

Don't forget all the restaurant employees that give up their holidays to make sure other people can go out to eat on the holidays.

Yes, retailers do have the right to be open on holidays. But, it's all about making sure they're getting as much, or more business as the next guy.

Employees don't give them up so people can eat. They are forced to so they can keep their job. Thats just what happens when you work in that industry and that is just another reason to get an education. I worked for Circuit City in college and ended up getting the flu and still had to work over 12 hours on black friday and the following saturday (biggest return day of the year).

In addition to my full time job, I have a part time job at a restaurant. I volunteered to work during the day on Thanksgiving. So yes, some of us give up our holidays. I wasn't forced to do it. Actually, several of us volunteered to work.

And guess what? I also have an education.

In my line of work, holidays can be very busy. A client was checking me out for possible help on Thanksgiving and was so impressed that while they decided not to use me, they are going to pay me for it anyway- with the understanding that they get first crack for Xmas

wow..I'm working on Black Friday and I'm not in that business. But I do work in a Walmart so I will be dreading the parking lots.

I would think everyone knows by now that Black Friday is a super busy shopping day, so the stores need as many people as possible to work.

To several, Black Friday is just another work day. But even on the holidays, the police, fire fighters, doctors/Emts, etc still work...thank goodness

I'll work this weekend like I have worked many in the past and I'm self employed.

I would think if these people make so little an hour because its an extra day of work they would be happy to pick up the extra hours.

The part I find difficult to believe is that people (consumers) will actually give up a holiday to deal with traffic, fight crowds, wait in line, and go just a little crazy - all to buy the c**p they sell at Wal-Mart.

Isn't Thanksgiving supposed to be a holiday about being thankful for what we have? When did it become a holiday about getting stuff we don't need?

How many holidays have service members missed?
These people need to shut the heII up and go to work or get a different job.

Excellent point!

No it isn't! People who join the service know full well that they will be someplace other than home during Thanksgiving and Christmas because it is their job. WalMart and the other corporations are just greedy cocksuckers. If being open is so goddamned important why isn't the CEO working?

I wonder if those who are demanding that employees just get over having to work on holidays are the ones who go into the stores/restaurants and are rude to the employees who are trying to help them?

I worked for wal-mart for awhile, I usually volunteered to work thanksgiving because I do not need a specific holiday to give thanks, I have all year to do that. Usually they were very willing to work around my schedule for christmas. I would tell them what time I would be unavailable and they would schedule me for after that time.

During the holidays is not a good time to end up without a job, there are a good number of people that will gladly take their place so that they can support their own families. Yes the job can be stressful, very stressful, but so can not having a job, having no way to support you family and a few other things.

I also had very good managers when I worked for wal-mart, guess i was a lucky one. They actually tried to make our jobs easier, several times I had a manager apologize in person because someone forgot to schedule someone to come in to replace me at the end of my shift. There were several times I would work open to close, long shift.

Be thankful for what you have, not for what you want. This is a time of year that we really do count our blessings, because in the long run wal-mart does not owe its employees anything beyond a paycheck.

That's great that you had good managers to work with. I do wonder how it happens several times that they forget to schedule people to relieve others from their shifts, though. I could see that happening once in a while, but several? And because of that, people are working open to close? I mean, if you need the money and are ok with that, great. But what about those who can't stay for someone else's shift when that person isn't coming in?

I worked in restaurants for many years and no one made a big issue about us having to work those days...At least we did get off for Christmas at the places I worked at but had to work Christmas eve at times....

Even though I do not do the black friday shopping.... I can understand why some are upset...But then most these places are not opening till 8pm and later... Heck by then my family is through with visiting...

They are offering to pay the employees time and a half hey at least they are getting something out of it...

Now I work where we shut down but what about our Firemen,Police,Hospitals & Military that have no choice.

Honestly I think the Black Friday is crazy there is no excuse why retail places can not have sales for more then one day.. Except that the big sales are on items that they only have one or two of them... With Black Friday they can act like they were sold out in no time but they have the next one up they can sell you.....

There is a difference between an item being sold out and having a shelf empty.

A shelf can hold only a limited number of items. So, when the last item is taken off the shelf, there will be a period of time when any such item in storage has to be found and brought out to the empty shelf.

Outside the store in my town, they are unloading 15 parked and dropped trailers.

Looks like they expect a big crowd.

They aren't being big babies. My father works for walmart and they treat their employees terribly. I advised my father each time the managers took retribution for him being sick and I don't mean the flu. He was in the hospital for his heart. His wife works in the same store and when she called off because her husband was in the hospital they refused her time off for seeing her husband was okay. I advised them to get the most update of the employee manual and to fight the managers with th policies manual and to go over their heads. The walmart corporation is terrible for the way they treat their employees and should be striked against.
