And nowadays with all the bad past relationships, hurt feelings, heartache and anger it often takes an earthquake to feel the prick of anything. Dating someone and you also have to deal with everyone else who has ever hurt or wronged them, too. It's not even an adventure anymore—it's more like a job (and not a very enjoyable one, either).

And you think the following generation isn't influenced by what they've seen and experienced in this one? We're not giving them a very good example to follow. "The world is a fine place, and worth fighting for". I agree with the second part. Love is worth fighting for, but it seems these days love is a very hard thing to come by.

 please forgive me for laughing, but picturing the gravity of the quake that it would take to feel a single prick is so sad that I have to laugh to keep from crying. You are right in some aspects of your deductive reasoning, but not everyone is so hung up on reliving their past that it prevents them from finding and enjoying the adventure when they truly do find that special connection they've gone through so many miles and trials to reach.. I fear that I hear echoes and shades of "jade" in your melancholy, but it's completely understandable.

As for the awful example our generation has set for the next... and the next.. and the next...

Love? We have to give to get... bigsmile

Hi teasingbrunette, I just peeked in on your profile because I have never taken a look to get to know you, I've only followed your work which I admire. So, it is nice to make your closer acquaintance.

I also find this piece especially entertaining... each is equally insured and can opt out as needed... laugh thank you for sharing...

"what if this existence is nothing outside of our own ego's creation?"

In a way each of our lives are a product of our ego's creation... Not prior to birth, as we have no power over that... but later, after we have the ability to think and do for ourselves... every thought we have, or action we take is based on our own desire and inclination to create our exterior world the way our ego wants us to live it. I dare say that even the people we accept into our lives feeds our egos in some way, and when they take from it more than they give to it, the imbalance causes a rift... wouldn't it be nice if this was really a dream and ultimately we all just fade to black...

I like your ideas, they force me to think much deeper.. to imagine the complexity I must draw the entire picture... what if... yes.. the endlessness of the possibilities... :)

When I think about love, outside of the human experience, like in the animal kingdom, and we see how various species treat their young, and one another, I wonder if they are motivated by "love", the purest most unselfish kind, as they nurture their young, their sick, mourn over their dead... or like my dog, Hammer, when he gives me sugar or cuddles with me, if what he feels is love? Or if what I feel for him is real love? Because there's no selfish motive on either of our parts to seek attention from each other, it just feels right. With humans it seems very conditional... that we'll "love" each other so long as there is something in it for us, besides our biological families, that is...

love??????? what if???????

Love is simply a word, no different than hate...It was created by people to describe something they did not know how to describe, just like every other word. What if every emotion is like that? Fear, sadness; what if they are all just creations from thin air on a whim?

These are the kind of things that make me so lovely at dinner conversation.

Hello AthenaRose & fellow Minglerers,

I would say yes, the women's movement is one of the considerable factors in the ongoing worldwide marriage fiasco. That, and because Doc Johnson does what he does...

laugh

It is a shame really. These reasons have not really changed, but public opinion of them has. This is both good and bad with the bad being an over 50% marriage failure rate - with no reduction in sight!

oh my, and as soon as my head starts to spin from your logic I get excited because I know I'm going to have to engage my brain full throttle... Just imagining for a mere second that everything I take for granted is really just an illusion... oh yeah.. the conversation is just starting to get good... who needs dinner, lets go straight to the den and round table discussion this... bigsmile

you two better keep this opinion to a low rumble, the last time I brought this subject up and tried to tie it in to the current main stream idealism I started Mingle War 4... but, I'll still quietly agree that women gaining so much power over men has definitely caused an unnatural shift in gender identity... ssssshhhh, you didn't hear me say this...

Women have power over men now? Dammit, I really have GOT to stop missing memos. Who do I complain to about this?

I certainly think that’s a big reason.

Another reason under the same general heading of Options, would be that more women are educated than have been in the past. With education comes broader thinking and continued growth throughout life. The more two people, in a couple, grow as individuals the more likely it becomes that they will grow in different directions....or “grow apart”.

I disagree, I look at it as an opportunity to grow closer (appreciate what you've got).

IDK if I would disagree offhand Hippee...women tend to know why they are incapable of staying faithful (no offense cinderella-who by the way put on an elaborate hoax to get with the man with the most money to better her situation..)

Ms. Athena, thank you for your honesty and I believe I fully understand how any comments on the topic could spark trouble. I truly admire anyone that is happy, but will admit that I am highly jealous as well. I believe that happiness can be a choice, and finding that happiness with someone is within the reach of all, but only if you are willing to slide the pride aside, change for the better of the relationship, and communicate through any roadblocks along the way. A little bit of luck & chance are mixed in there as well...

C'mon - this is one of the best kept/least publicly discussed non-secrets of our time! I don't intend to come off as completely & utterly crass, but women have had the power since the rib came from the chest...

Some may (not likely = it's dangerous) say it's the power of the poonanny, others may say its our Mothers' incredibly powerful role in our upbringing, and some may say it's our innate instinct on a primal level; either way it's there!

Men may be in obvious "positions of power" but you know what they say, "Behind every great man..." (true & and she's REALLY running the show)

yeah right.. laugh with the right man you could wrap him around your finger... just like most every other woman I know personally, her man knows how to dance to her tune, and smiles while he does it... rather than pulling her cave man style by the hair to the bedroom... women rule these neck of the woods... drinker

Hey Athenarose. Did I just read no marriage can be sustained by the younger generation? Well, what i know is that most of the time its right. But a few of us actually practice for better or for worse. Personally what i think is that when u r into marriage one must be committed, be ready to do or accept things together and above all give up that u r single(compromise in every scenario and the like)

yes, mikaxel, I fear the younger generations down the road will be even less content with the bonds of matrimony as the world becomes more self centered... I wish I could say that marriage can last if you really work at it, but sometimes the circumstances are so awful you're left with no other way to survive, then to go your separate ways... imho...
