There are different types of intimacy so you need to define this a little better. Can a parent be "intimate" with it's child? Yes, there's an intimacy that isn't physical in the manor you're implying. Can a relationship survive without some sort of intimacy? No, it can't. Does it need to be physical? No it doesn't. Now that that's clear as mud, you might want to ask your question again with a little better idea of what you're wanting to ask.

Sure, you don�t need physicall intimacy (if you mean that by intimacy) to love somebody. But some kind of mental, spiritual intimacy is needed.

I think it is possible to love without intimacy, but the relationship will remain superficial. Intimacy is not about getting off, well, it can be, but when two ppl love each other, it adds another dimension to a relationship. The desire to become one with the person you love, and to actually become one ... bliss! Intimacy is what sets a partner relationship aside from friendship.
