I personally won't use Skype.. I recently had a nasty virus on my pc.. My techie guys told me it came either from Skype or Mingle well since I don't have skype anymore and I am on Mingle a lot.. No virus's since I pretty much know which one it was..

I do use Viber app with my guy.. I also have no desire to video chat with a bunch of people.

My theory is stay at the party that brought you together. If people have hang ups about Mingle let them look for someone else on another site.

I have had no problems talking to real people on Mingle and I agree the scammers are pretty easy to spot. Usually they are the first to want to go to Yahoo or a text number. Takes about a minute to cross reference a name or number against the scammer identification sites and delete them.

I do not like what seems like a concerted effort of yahoo to try and lure Mingler's away. Or hang up finding Mingle on their search engine. I have years past had my fill of willy wankers and homeless on yahoo and will not respond to a yahoo address.

I do think Skype is a stellar option if and when you want to have real free conversation with someone without revealing your home number or address. You choose what you post. You choose if you just use voice or voice and picture. What is great is it is nearly impossible to fake and appearance and you completely avoid the people who totally misrepresent themselves with grandiose personal descriptions that are about as useful as a stick in the eye.

I, personally, would never go on a date with someone who has not been seen on Skype (or by a third party) if for no other reasons than safety. True married folks can wrangle a phony living arrangement but it is much more difficult. Especially if you call them back at an odd hour to see if they actually are there.

And less face it if I can't have a rational, relaxed, even enjoyable conversation on Skype with someone why would I want to make the effort to go on a date? I don't know about others but I make a special effort to go out on a date and most dates cost money. Even if the man pays I feel some obligation to reciprocate the invitations I accept. But then I don't bother with the "coffee date". Someone doesn't have any better idea about me than to just do a drive by look see as a date after writing, calling and eventually Skyping then he is too indecisive for me. Somewhere in the process you have to put your grown up pants on and just deal with a date. Are they all great? No but very few should be totally intolerable if you have done your preliminary stuff.

At least with Skype you have the obnoxious first date "stuff" out of the way.

No one's ever asked me to Skype, but it would depend, as it does require one to give out personal information.

Much for the same reason I don't trust anyone that asks me to "yahoo message," I would feel leery of Skype. If someone isn't willing to use the message system built into the core of the dating site to bring me to a point of being comfortable with them, then I automatically assume that they are up to no good.

I guess what I'm saying is trust has to be built, and if someone isn't willing to understand that I'm not ready to go that far yet, then they weren't for me.

Every time I agree to skype with someone they try to turn to sex. As soon as that happens, it's click. I like to message a bit before agreeing to video chat just so I get a better feel for the guy.

Agreed. For security purposes.

Why skype? Why not Google hangouts, facebook video chat, or even yahoo. Basically there are so many ways it can be done there is really no reason to say I don't have skype or any of the others. It seems everyone has access to one of these kinds of accounts.

I can see many reasons to now want video right away. After chatting for a while I don't see why it would be a issue to do a video chat. That would be a logical step.

The Homeless programs I have worked in actually tutor people how to set up a Yahoo address because then their family, church, potential employers, medical providers, and even the social workers can send and get back messages. And yes many of them are on line with free cell phones with limited data. Lot of free wifi access. Some with laptops they have bought used or been given. Some stolen is why I would hope more people would lobby for "kill switch" legislation. What IS scary this is including sex offenders, felons, and other nefarious types.

Man, That's just it. A lot of women are afraid of this. And rightly so. Many have met men that they thought were OK when they were messaging back and forth. Just to find out later during a video chat that the guy, for whatever reason thinks that shaking his pecker at her is appropriate. That's one reason why it is an issue. We have too many sex crazy men on dating sites.

It's like I said on another thread the other day. I'm a moderator on another site. There are days where I will sit for an hour and do nothing but delete either whole profiles or pictures of men with their boner in their hand. I have deleted over a 100 in one hour. Women get in on it some. But it's mostly men. At least 97% of the time it's men.

Its called choice.
If people don't want to Skype then they won't. What's the problem.

Wouldn't it be better to find that out on video chat where they can close the window and block them. Than to have something like that happen in the middle of the first date? Just saying.

It's really not, but I always like to shed a little logic onto topics like this.
