I admire Canadians.
They have such awful neighbors.

Former slave from S.C., brave enough to steal the confederate CSS Planter along with 15 other slaves and steer her right into the Union blockade, Captain the ship and buy his former owners plantation, run for and serve in congress in South Carolina

ROBERT SMALLS

If that is not a hero I don't know what is.

He did raise a white flag as he neared the blockade, so technically he did surrender the ship. When asked his reason for taking the ship to the Union he asked only for the right to raise the flag of the United States. They gave him freedom and allowed him not only to raise the flag but let him keep the ship.

my mom for all she has gone through but never gave us up.

my step dad for never giving up on us.

those who were my patients when I was a care giver. in spite of the challenges that caused them to need care, they taught me never to stop trying and that every day is a gift

My folks for putting up with me all these years and for always having my back. No one will ever be loyal or have your back like your parents. Ever.

My step-dad. He fell in love with my Mom when I was two and that (I feel) is rare. He has always treated me as HIS son. In fact, he IS my dad as my bio father was never around. So blessed he entered my life.....and my Mom still thinks he is (to this day) a hottie. laugh

My grandad, as he was the wisest man that I've ever met! Taught me a lot about myself, so he did!

My Mom.. my Dad passed away very young. She raised all 8 of us ( oldest was 15, youngest was 3 at the time)..never remarried. and all of us "kids" turned out just fine.. because of her.

she is just a incredible woman.

Wow there would be a long list. Quite a few here on Mingle since many of them have taken what life dished out and kept on keeping on. Quite a few devoted single parents and family caregivers. My Dad comes to mind because he worked hard and put up with a lot and still had a gentle kind spirit life long. Top of the list at the moment would be my Grandson who has recently weather a storm of bad health and seems to still be able to be excited about life.
