A driver is software that allows your computer to communicate with hardware or devices. Without drivers, the hardware you connect to your computer—for example, a video card or a printer—won't work properly.

Here is what google said.. other than that.. I got nothing
Know zip about computers, just glad they work when I need them to..
Good luck, hope someone answers you..

I was going to answer the question, now I won't...

I used to fix computers for a living...but I've grown out of that.

the reason I won't answer, is because of your post complaining about views...maybe they didn't have the answer...but you get mad at them for that..I stop seeing clients when they start blaming me....

I had one client that I removed over 300 viruses on her machine, I charged her half my normal rate as she was a friend of a friend....

later(months, months later) her hard drive crashed she called me blamed me for destroying her computer and demanded j fix it for free(she needed a hard drive) I wasn't going to come out of pocket for it....she was an unreasonable client, and the relationship ended....

my advice take your computer to best-buy frys, or a local comouter shop, and don't expect kindness from strangers in the internet especially when you're rude

Yeah, there are some c_guys here but they seem to have missed your post.

Please type 'Device Manager' in the search text box of Windows startup panel and it will display a list of all devices attached to your pc (including your mouse). A driver, normally is a device driver, a software written in low level language like assembly or 'C' which interfaces with the pc's operating system (Windows). Normally this does not have to be updated unless one changes the device.

As far as AOL / Firefox and others, there are no devices except for the USB / modem supplied by your internet provider & that's got nothing to do with Browser software.

I'm on slightly gray area here, but an interface to the net - net is not a device.

So my opinion is that AOL browser software has some 'conflict' with either a previous version of AOL or another browser like Firefox.

That said, if AOL-mail is asking you to press a button to 'erase' some driver on your hard disk drive then it's not ok.

If it's AOL's installation wizard then it should automatically erase / uninstall previous 'AOL mail' version. So if it is asking for something else - then it's v.strange & what is it?

On an aside - I have a suspicion that AOL's newer version would 'read' your mail (like gmail does; cause I receive quite a few 'targeted ads' when I send a mail to anybody on a particular topic') Targeted ads have become a huge source of revenue; particularly now that Google has bought out 'Ad-Block'.

Now if you want to stop those irritating messages go to AOL's 'Settings page' and 'options' and so on till you reach 'Look up updates'. Uncheck this obviously.

If it still persists then as Isaac says getting friendly with the neighborhood store / geek or googling 'AOL updates' could bring in a lot of info.

That will be $10 /-.

Additionally, if you are taking assistance from the neighborhood spider man then they will do their diagnosis right in front of you (in IT this is among your rights to request as a safeguard to private files). Even if it's opening your hardware, in front of you else, your 4GB memory would shrink to 2GB.

that's another $5/-
Now where should i send the bill?

From earlier discussions in the forums, there are AOL users in M2; (i'm not..); so it's like missing the bus.

Yes she's not rude. She's learning computers. She's 60. It can be frustrating. Probably English is a second language? Well remember, caps lock means your YELLING!!!!
And when looking for help, don't write as if your trying to put a guilt trip on people. Well hope this helps you. whoa

didn't feel like reading through all the posts atm, as most of them seem off topic. But to answer your question directly, a driver is the software or "program" that runs your hardware and or tells it how to operate and or when to do it's operation.

Then it can get deeper than there. If you want to put things on a thumb drive, be careful not to attach a program file with it, or if you do, just make sure you know which program file you used, to be able to open your documents. (Aren't 1Tb. thumb drives lovely)? flowers

Now a days, the only difference between a computer and a smart phone is 'Flash Player', and a U.S.B. port. That's the only thing missing from a stock smart phone. Of course by now flash player can be installed. But as of yet, no Universal Serial Bus.

Sounds like you also have some malware on your pc. Anytime you get "pop-ups" saying things like "click here to repair" or "erase hard drive" it is usually malware or virus attacks.

Didn't know anyone still uses AOL noway
