i have an idea to start a movement where we only buy American, made in these united states. example-if the only car you can find that was made here is a 1968 camaro, then thats what you buy. if you cant find a part for it thats not foreign, you have a machinist build it for you. ect. ect.
any ideas on how someone could impliment such an idea?

from toothbrushes to bulldosers. everything. doesent matter what the xtra cost is, its cheaper than loosing jobs. Its supply and demand: if there is a market for american goods, the manufacturers will comply.

sounds good in theory but almost everything in the past 50 years has parts made in other countries including that 68 camaro.....

how do you plan to bypass that?

already answered. go to a machine shop and have the part made.

unfortuanatley for a capitalist society like ours 2 work sufficiently and 2 promote our way of thinking and commerce around the world, we need 2 import goods from other places

your mistaken, most engine parts, transmission parts and quite a few others were made in mexico and china, then shipped here. alot of time when they say "made in america" they mean "assembled in america"

i agree we should buy american made, but first we need something that is truly american MADE

the only way we can save this thing now is for a movement like this to become widespread. we need to shun all things foreign. ( except mabe mail order brides) lol. when you buy something foreign think of a job down the street going to mexico. how can that be good? its false economy to save a few( or many) dollars on a foreign widget.

Interesting thread and theory(I'm all for it), but instead of trying to get people to "buy American" (bye-bye Wally Worldlaugh ), wouldn't a better solution be to get corporations to stay in the good ole U.S. of A. and manufacture parts HERE?

I believe the entire idea of "economy" is false, money is a means 2 an end, the entire world needs 2 use a barter system, maybe saying that makes me a communist but hey I dont care

Sorry bud...but you are DREAMING!

American's (which I am one, born and served) have become so self centered, and self comsumed, they have no real idea how to "band together" anymore.

This same idea you have has been put on the table a few times since I was born (1965). And it work to certain degrees, but less and less as times went by.

Why? Because now people pay :lip service" and put little if any "action" behind it. They wait for "someone else to do something about it...therefore NOTHING gets done.

Our politicians have most people "trained" well. They know people will "complain" about something, but then soon it just fades away. That's why so many, politicians, companies, etc, do what they do now..they KNOW that MOST people will just "pay lip service" then goes away.

Just like our gas prices. People b*tch and moan about it...while filling up thier HUMMER or other GAS GUZZLER (and only one person in the car) to go down to the store that is 3 blocks away, rather than walk thier lazy butts down to the store. Or refuse to take public transportation (like the bus) on even a couple of days a week.

I LOVE AMERICA and the AMERICAN PEOPLE,but they have gotten LAZY and SELF CENTERED and do nothing but PAY LIP SERVICE!

So your idea is a great one..however, it will never work, because the people of America will not join together anymore in a common cause. And even in those extreme cases that they do, they are usually guided by people who will mis-direct or flat out take advantage of the stituation. Americans have gotten STUPID in many respects.

I had two great mentors from 1987-1990. Mr Sam Walton and Mr. Lee Iacocca. Now they were TRUE LEADERS! If you get the chance, Mr. Iacocca put out a book called "Where have all the leaders gone?" Just read the intro..you'll get the meaning.

IF Americans can get back to what John F. Kennedy said.. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country". Then you will have at least the mentality of the American people to truly make CHANGE like you speak happen.

And even though a dream, I am one who puts action behind my words...so I'll join you in any fight to help make America great again!

Just my two paws worth! Best wishes! bigsmile
