the only way i see that happening now is for there to be a huge domestic market opening up for them, which this would do. back in the day, countries would tax whatever came accross the borders, for just this reason, to level the playing field. since our so called leaders are intent on sending all our jobs overseas, im not seeing any other alternatives, though im sure there are some.

Interesting thread and theory(I'm all for it), but instead of trying to get people to "buy American" (bye-bye Wally Worldlaugh ), wouldn't a better solution be to get corporations to stay in the good ole U.S. of A. and manufacture parts HERE?

Well let the FACT be known, when Mr. Sam Walton ran Wal-Mart, he made it a practice to ALWAYS BUY AMERICAN whenever he could! It was only after he stepped down as CEO, then he pasted away from cancer...then that changed to his money grubbing kids and stock holders! grumble

I think that due to "economy" people r WASTING their lives, someone drives to work every day to pay for their car, their food and their house, and the only reward they ever get for it is being able to buy a new car/house so they can continue working till their retirement at which point theyre 2 old n sick 2 have any fun!

good question. The main concern for me is the jobs, though you raise a good point. i guess if foreign money wants to set up a manufacturing facility here, we shouldent run them off.... hummmmm

the only way to get manufacturers to stay in the us is to lower manufacturing costs below what they can get over seas, so our cost of living would have to go down, minimum wage would have to go down. just about everything would have to go down. they don't go over seas just for the sake of it ya know. we need to start with manufacturers who will willingly do it even if it is more expensive then buy their first.

lizard, back in the day, and it wasent that long ago, you could get a good paying, secure jpob with bennies and a future almost anywhere. Whats out there now? service industry jobs, part time with no bennies. the reason is obvious, all those jobs are now in china making leaded toys for the kids.

well thats still not entirely true. he bought "american assembled". thats where it really needs to stop. too many people mistake american made from parts in made in china for american made period.

yup azure. my attack plan would be to create that market, and they would be moving right back here. if you build the market, they will come. what we need are the good ole fashioned good paying jobs, not lower wages. A lot of good could be done by the govt getting off the manufacturers backs with all thier taxes, regulations, ect.

Trade has always been an important part of our country. Utilizing other countries has improved our very state of living. I have bought American cars and been screwed. I have bought foreign cars that have lasted longer and been better in design than anything American.

It is important to have the competition from all corners of the world so that we may continue to improve our products. Why did that Camero part break in the first place?

The Chinese invented paper money, umbrellas, wheelbarrows, multistage rockets, brandy and whiskey, and chess. Did you hear that? Brandy and Whiskey. They are important in my eyes and they will correct their recent "Lead" issues in toys.

Buy for quality and from where you trust. That is what is important here.

I don't agree with boycotting foreign products, afterall what if nobody bought our products? Tobacco is still a major export, people around the world love that good carolina tobacco. I'll only boycott a foreign product for a specific reason, such as child labour;^]

americans are too self centered. they will shop wherever to save 15 cents even if it puts an american out of work. that type of thinking needs to stop. think of your fellow man for a change. our country is doomed till we wake up and help each other

quality and exproting are not the only issues here at all. we're sending a ton of american money over seas for things we could do here. that puts americans out of work and ends with american consumers having less money to buy goods. goods have to get cheaper so even more is sent over seas so even less money ends up in the hands of american consumers and so on. eventually there will be no money here and we'll be forced to remortgage the us to japan or something.....

i don't see it as boycotting foriegn good because their foreign, i see it as keeping americans capable of purchasing products at all.

No, thats actual FACT. Yes, Mr. Walton did buy anything he could AMERICAN MADE, but again when it was POSSIBLE. he also gave preference to anything even "assembled" in the USA. It was his practice to try to give as much buying to things American in any form than to go with something "made in China", etc. But in many cases there was not choice, since many items simply were not available here.

But without doubt, Mr. Walton put American made things FIRST, even if it was assembled in America and such. This one I know for absolute FACT, because I knew the man personaly.

Walmart should be on my boycott list, given their descecration of historical sites in Hawai and lack of employee care. Remember, jobs have always left while new jobs emmerged as it happens now. Not pretty but it's a fact of life;^]

I have always tried to buy american. Problem is nothing is made here anymore.
It has always bothered me seeing foriegn cars with American flags or some other Sudo patriotic device on it. And listening to drivers of these cars question someone elses love of this country. And don't give me the bull about "well they're made in America". The profits still go to overseas corporations, and the workers don't get the same pay or benefits as the american companies. The reason they're made here is to avoid paying tarifs.
I wish I could buy all Amercan, but sadly we are no longer a major manufacturer of comsumer goods. We are a major manufacturer of weapons systems.
Peace

Bottom line here folks...it's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!

The "bottom line" is ALL the companies care about, they give no consideration of who or what it hurts.

American's today wouldn't "boycott" jack-chit because they are simply too lazy and only pay "lip service"

Anyone here ever take public transportation (like a city bus) just to make a statement that you are actually doing something about the "gas" situation? I have and still do.

Has anyone here ever held up a picket sign in front of a retailer or anywhere just to make a statement?? (believe it or not, this tactic works a LOT faster than ANY lawsuit!!!) Well I have and still will!

So if you want things to CHANGE..then DO SOMETHING about it..don;t just TALK about it. Then we get CHANGE! bigsmile

I've got alot on my boycott list, Mel Gibson, Dan Abrahms, the washington DC nfl team, fox news, the red cross, and so on (not enough time to list them all). Also, I do use public transport for pretty much everything except groceries and gigs;^]

See at least you are doing SOMETHING about the gas..not just paying lip service.

I use the bus whenever I can..not because I have to..its just to knowing I am doing SOMETHING besides complaining. If my schedule tight..or like you say, grocery time, then I drive. I am also "middle aged" so the walks do me good (about 6-9 miles a day average) So I win there too.

Now if EVERYONE would do that..I GUARANTEE CHANGE! remember when all the truckers stopped thier rig right on the interstates and walked away..that made CHANGE! Do you see them now, even with diesel over $3.00 a gallon?? Nope! WHY???
