Anyone listened to Weird Al's New album yet?

http://j.mp/mPl5Lo

His parodies and polkas are as great as ever, but I found his originals a little hard on the ears. Oh, and listening to "Perform This Way" without watching the video is like only hearing half the song.

The manned space program is all about politics now and Obama plans to kill it for the forseeable future. Once the people and infrastructure are gone, it will be too costly to rebuild.

Lilly Sloan: How much did this thing cost?
Jean Luc Picard: I'm afraid the economics of the future are somewhat different.

I've never been to Puerto Rico... yet. But I'm not finished travelling the world yet either.

Stick with "New king James version"

Umm. Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that one. And now, a few words from the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with the news. Nor have I actually read all pages of this thread. So, I don't know all the details, but I'm surprised it's got you so rattled, Andy. You usually strike me as a pretty laid back guy. But since you care so much, can I ask: What are you going to do about it?

I was just about to start a new topic when I noticed this one. I hate to agree that the current state of affairs concerning human space flight is considerably less than awe inspiring. But I think we are only at a precipice. I think a couple of pretty exciting changes are about to take place, it's only a matter of time. Since this thread has already seen two of the topics I was going to mention, I'll simply continue here.

The first is the commercial space industry including the efforts of Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic, and the Spaceship Company. Spaceship Two, VSS Enterprise and her mothership have already completed several trial glides and should be conducting the first self powered flights in the very near future. You can watch the most recent test flight here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er9-sTDhJ58

The second was Mr. Chang-Diaz's VASIMR and the Ad Astra Rocket Company. It's my understanding that this company already has an agreement with NASA to install experimental VASIMRs aboard the ISS so they can aid in maintaining the station's altitude. I also don't see any reasons why this type of propulsion couldn't be incorporated into future models of Virgin's space ships either.

Thirdly, NASA and DARPA's 100 year spaceship initiative. http://www.space.com/11200-nasa-100-year-starship-interstellar-travel.html

I'd also like to mention is this article I read a few days ago:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/070419113601.htm
The most recent article I read about this was dated 2008. If anyone knows of any more recent developments, I'd appreciate an update.

And finally a few videos I found.

Part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGv64mFJ2E8

All these pieces of the puzzle are starting to pop up. I like how Dr. Zurbin put it. "We didn't go to the moon because we had Saturn Vs. We had Saturn Vs because we were going to the moon." Just because government agencies seem to have given up hope on, or can't afford such ambitious projects doesn't mean that all is lost.

To those who ask why we should go into space at all? I'll borrow my answer from James T. Kirk

You're forgetting the most important reason of all...
Because it's there.

Quasi-Related...

As a submariner, now that political minded activists after decades of effort have finally forced women onto U.S. submarines, I have started campaigning for the integration of all male and female professional sports teams. No more NBA and WNBA, no more PGA and LPGA, etc. If there's enough room for men AND women on an isolated submarine underwater, then there's enough room in any locker room in any professional stadium in the country.

As we know all too well, the science fiction of today often gives birth to the reality of today. Co-ed locker rooms and showers have been seen in Aliens, Starship Troopers, and Battlestar Galactica just to name a few. It's only a matter of time before they become commonplace in our society.

Aren't seahorses normally really small? I was snorkeling in Guam one time and almost got caught in a net. I didn't see it till I was right on top of it. But I'm guessing maybe it wasn't the same kind of net that you're talking about.

So, I finally shelled out the cash and picked up one of these gadgets yesterday. After testing it out a small part of my arm and a little more practice on my leg I decided to move on to my chest. I must've spent at least an hour with nothing to show but a whole lot of burnt smelling hair. Finally I just broke out the trusty ol clippers and did things the old fashioned way.

Sorry this isn't resounding praise for anyone thinking about buying one. I'm hoping someone here (girls OR guys) might have some tips or tricks to share. For example, what is the optimum length of hair to use it on? I guess I'll just wait a few days and keep practising.

Plenty of Fish

No thanks. I'm not that desperate. The drinking is something I've been dealing with for a long time, and I've cut back alot. The beach is a pretty good idea. I'll try that if it ever warms up here.

There doesn't seem to be a great selection of people in my area/country using this site. Craigslist also appears to be going widely unused. Does anybody have any suggestions for sites not geared primarily for americans?
