Women know that men generally find long hair attractive on a woman. Yet, many women cut their hair short. Why? Is it a conscious choice on your part to become less attractive? Do you think looking good is just too much work and not worth the payoff?

Live without sex? Sure. I go long stretches (4 to 6 weeks) without having sex because of my job. But, when I get home, I'm going through my list of phone numbers. I have to make up for lost time.

When stressed, do you experience any physical symptoms?

Sometimes, when I'm stressed, my lips swell.

At first I thought I had my settings wrong. Nope. I'm listed as a straight female seeking a male. So then why are all the ads on my mingle screen showing me pictures of WOMEN near me? Why am I being offered an all I can eat buffet of (probably fictional) women? Why am I not being shown hunky fictional men?

I don't want to date an Asian woman damn it! I want some THUNDER DOWN UNDER!

That's interesting. I'd have thought the ads would be more targeted than that. But, it seems you're seeing the same ads I am.

Maybe it's because the ads work? Women's magazines usually have a cover photo of a woman because it sells more than covers with photos of men. In fact, the only magazines you see with men on the covers are aimed at gay men.

I suppose you could try changing your profile to say you're a gay man, but it probably won't get you the kind of mail you're looking for. Better to ignore the ads and use Google images when you want to look at hunky fellas.

I could care less how anyone dresses. I think if you feel comfortable; then wear what you want. I can remember my parents freaking out about girls wearing mini skirts and I vowed that I wasn't going to be like that. Me, I can dress from a military uniform, to long gown & heels; to just wearing a sweatsuit as I did yesterday to go out for some cold medication. Clothing does not make me the person I am; as its merely an outer dressing and nothing more. I have better things to worry about in life than worrying about what others are wearing.

I agree that clothes don't make the person. However, the clothes we choose do have an effect on how we're perceived by others. We all make snap judgements based on appearance. We can't help it, it's part of our evolutionary programming. Clothes are a big clue to who a person is. I have found, most of the time, you absolutely can judge a book by it's cover. Gangsters dress like gangsters and bankers dress like bankers.

It's my opinion that everyone should make an effort to look as good as they can, as often as they can within the context of what they're doing at the time. This is what "appropriate attire" means. What you wear to go shopping or to a job interview is going to be different than what you wear to work on your car or fix your plumbing. But, no matter what you're doing, there's no excuse for looking bad while you do it.

I'm also interested in how the world works, evolution etc. But, I'm very curious about how people work. Why would someone follow a cult leader to the point of killing their children? There are people that are truely upset by the idea that life has no meaning or that there's no free will or that nothing is real or matters. I wonder, why?

So do you believe there is no "free will?"

Do you believe that life has no meaning?

This is what I think about free will.

“Do people have free will? If we have free will, where in the evolutionary tree did it develop? Do blue-green algae or bacteria have free will, or is their behavior automatic and within the realm of scientific law? Is it only multicelled organisms that have free will, or only mammals? We might think that a chimpanzee is exercising free will when it chooses to chomp on a banana, or a cat when it rips up your sofa, but what about the roundworm called Caenorhabditis elegans—a simple creature made of only 959 cells? It probably never thinks, “That was damn tasty bacteria I got to dine on back there,” yet it too has a definite preference in food and will either settle for an unattractive meal or go foraging for something better, depending on recent experience. Is that the exercise of free will?

Though we feel that we can choose what we do, our understanding of the molecular basis of biology shows that biological processes are governed by the laws of physics and chemistry and therefore are as determined as the orbits of the planets. Recent experiments in neuroscience support the view that it is our physical brain, following the known laws of science, that determines our actions, and not some agency that exists outside those laws. For example, a study of patients undergoing awake brain surgery found that by electrically stimulating the appropriate regions of the brain, one could create in the patient the desire to move the hand, arm, or foot, or to move the lips and talk. It is hard to imagine how free will can operate if our behavior is determined by physical law, so it seems that we are no more than biological machines and that free will is just an illusion.”

— Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow, The Grand Design, Bantam Books, New York, 2010, p. 32.

It's my belief that life has no meaning in and of itself. However, some people are able to do things that have great meaning to others.

Why "morally?"

Because it's funnier.

Okay, I can agree that consciousness does exist. I can agree that there are different levels of consciousness and some life forms are more conscious than others and also my be conscious of different things. However, I have to draw the line at lifeforms that don't have a brain or at least a nervous system. A single celled creature may be self aware (this is me and that is not), but conscious? I'm having a hard time with that.

Wow you've got serious problems.

If you were really concerned about your "privacy" you would not have left her alone in your apartment or truck.

If you plant things, you are playing head games.

If she doesn't snoop, you will probably feel like she doesn't give a damn about who you are.

Not at all. If she doesn't snoop, I know I can trust her. She's a keeper.

Why? did your script run out? Really makes you wonder who needs the psych meds...............................

My former wife was bi-polar. I'd like to avoid that type in the future. Too much drama.

The male species will never give up on their porn star fantasies.
It's useless to try to change that.

As long as women fantasize about being porn stars . . .

Exactly... I can and do whatever porn stars do.... I am REAL. They are an image on a screen.
so why use porn....I hate this freaking topic.

Because the way a woman looks is extremely important to men and women just don't take care of themselves in this part of the world. Many of us would prefer a thin, young fantasy to a real, overweight willing partner.

There have always been different levels of attire. A construction worker has always worn different clothes than a banker or a solder. This is because clothes do more than cover our nakedness. They also serve functions and each style can look good in it's own way if the fit is right.

In my job (truck driver) I have to feel comfortable sitting for many hours a day as well as be able to climb up into the cab of my truck. So, I buy my clothes with that in mind. I wouldn't be comfortable in a three piece suit and tie. So, I wear denim or khaki pants with cotton T-shirts and have a leather jacket near by for cold and rainy days.

My shoes must be easy to clean, give me a sure footing on greasy surfaces and again be comfortable while I'm driving. A soft moccasin does the trick most of the time. But I do keep a pair of boot handy just in case.

I keep my colors simple so everything I wear matches with everything else.

So, I think it's not so much about what a person wears, but about how they wear it that makes it look good or bad.

Everything we know is an assumption based on the evidence we have. A long time ago, people saw the sun move across the sky. Based on this they assumed the sun revolved around the earth. It seemed self evident. Now, we have better evidence that proves that hypothesis wrong. Based on what we now assume to be true, we assume the earth revolves around the sun. But, some new, unforeseen evidence may come to light and blow that theory out of the water too. Although I don't think it's likely.

You're right that a hypothesis is different from an assumption. A hypothesis leads one to making assumptions.

I am curious about what makes you believe all life is conscious. But, I may not be able to find out for a while because in a few hours I'm getting back on the truck and headed to I don't know where.

IMHO if you are dumb enough to bring someone you hardly know into your home for a boink, and you leave them there to go somewhere else, then you deserve to have them go through your stuff, rip you off, and pretty much whatever they decide to do because Stupid is your first name.

As far as leaveing stuff to creates some false persona that is that is some really self hatred self sabotageing weird stuff. What you going to do go around and pull all the stuff out if you actually meet someone you want to like you? Bizzaro!!!!

I don't like people that invade my privacy. Women test men all the time. I want to know if I can trust her and the sooner I find out, the better.

Whether you admit it or not, you're playing games.

Of course I am. But, the game is a consequence of her bad behavior. A punishment.

But, so what? Head games are everywhere. Every ad on TV is trying to make you feel bad so you'll see why you need to buy a product.

By the way, A hypothesis (plural hypotheses) is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon.

It is NOT an assumption.

Are we really going to argue semantics? Very well, since the hypothesis is unproven it is an assumption.

Go right ahead and present your logical argument. I'll stand back and give you some room.

A "common ancestor" for all living things is not the specific individual organism or one celled animal that had its eye on eventually becoming human.

In any case, you are still talking about THE EGG.

Which came first.... The Chicken or the egg.

Creative has chosen the egg.

Obviously the egg came first. We know this to be true because reptiles evolved before birds and reptiles lay eggs. Since chickens are birds we can safely say they came after eggs.

No, it is an hypothesis which cannot be dis-proven.

In science, assumptions are made all the time. If they can make assumptions, then so can I.

I arrived at my hypothesis by way of logical reasoning.

A hypothesis is also an assumption. And you're right, a negative cannot be proven. Therefore, it would be up to you to prove that carrots are in fact conscious.
