Do you think it is better to be honest or to sugar-coat things with lies?

I very much want honesty and as soon as possible, so that I can make choices for my well-being and sanity, make level-headed choices. After having been with a compulsive liar in my life years ago, I am extremely inquisitive and will not tolerate lies. I'd rather hear an ugly truth than unearth a lie later. Better to know ASAP.
hello suzzette, goodmorning to you

Hey, Michael!! What are you doing up this early!!!!???? bigsmile
my nephew and his girlfriend came over just now getting ready to go to bed,lol

You are right, Fran. That is what I am seeing. And some people get overtly hostile if you don't agree. They should have a disclaimer for threads "Only those who agree may post"

hmmm wonder where I have heard that, but it very appropriate in this setting.

People want to post questions but already have the answer for you, WTF!!! lmao laugh laugh laugh

Feel free to agree to disagree with me Hiker and be as blunt as you want, I will not melt nor wither and die. flowerforyou The truth shall always prevail bigsmile

I have lots of friends on here, Fran, and we don't always agree. We have butted heads on different issues but we respected the other's right to have a different opinion. That is all I ask. I can disagree with you and still love you to death.

Hiker, I find myself posting less and less because of it. I'm kind of missing the fun factor it used to have; debates, jokes and good old fun.

I agree to disagree with anyone/everyone drinker

(I do have my own opinions and life experiences)

It seems to me that there is a disadvantage to being too honest. Some people mistake your honesty for hostility, for one thing. Other people have carefully crafted lies that they live with and they resent the intrusion of your logic.

On the other hand, there are some people who act very sweet and nice but when you don't agree with them, they get testy. When you do try to discuss things on their merits, they call you names and imply that you are just being nasty.

Do you think it is better to be honest or to sugar-coat things with lies?

Being honest is the best way, I don't lie, not even to sugar-coat the truth.

I don't tell them everything if i think it might hurt them, or I warn them ahead of time that they won't like it. That's something called tact and honest people learn how to use this or they give up and become dishonest.

Then you and your friends are kindred spirits who obviously understand each other, not to mention being grown up enough to agree to disagree.
its great to have 2 spirits that are alined

Believe me, I had a few really good lines that I wasted because I was afraid to stir things up. It takes a lot of the fun out of it when you can't just be witty without people taking offense.

Tactfully honest if possible! If that's sugar coating, then maybe I do. I may play with suggestive statements if I'm riled enough, but never name call. I think it's incredibly immature and distasteful. I did it once when I was young and will not do it again.

I think name calling is rude. I just like to say what I think about a topic. In general, I want to comment on a topic, not on the person who posted it; and I like to use "I" statements. "I think", "I feel", etc. not, "You are.."

And still people take offense.

Sometimes it's ok to sugarcoat. I did that last night with a woman who has a brain tumor. I was driving past her house on my golfcart and stopped to say hello. She lives near Raliegh NC but also owns a home in the same resort as me. Her name is Daisy and she was crying because she took her last treatment of kemo this week and it broke out a rash on her body. She has to wear a wig and all of a sudden she has broken out with these little red bumps all over her body. She was upset because she wanted to go to the beach today. I told her that no one would notice the rash and if they started staring, just yank the wig off and slap em with it. That should scare the hell out of em. But I did keep reassuring her that no one would notice her rash. Poor woman is only 40 years old. She just now called me and asked if she could borrow a few of my beach chairs so I guess it worked.
