Slavery Today: A Clear and Present Danger
Thursday 22 May 2008

Greenpeace says workers in the Amazon are forced by McDonald's to burn the rain forest for low-cost food production.

Slavery never ended in the United States; it continues here and across the globe, facilitated by globalization, corruption and greed. There are more people enslaved today - controlled by violence and forced to work without pay - than at any time in human history.

Experts put the number of slaves at 27 million worldwide. These men and women work across many sectors of the global economy, raking in profits for the criminals who hold them against their will. The US State Department estimates that 17,500 slaves are brought into the United States every year. An estimated 50,000 slaves are forced to work as prostitutes, farm workers and domestic servants in the US.

Republican presidential nominee John McCain recently mentioned domestic slavery during a stump speech.

And, we are suppose to just take Greenpeace at their word? They provide no proof. McDonald's isn't even in the article, it's in a picture caption. Now truly this is no surprise that there is slavery all over the world, to blame it solely on greed, capitalization and globalization (all three sounding like a socialist mantra) is ridiculous. Surely yes, there is slavery because of all three, but it would be there still if there were not those three as well.

Should have included the bottom where it talks about ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION slavery coming from Mexico. Funny thing is, you'll want to stop the sex traffiking and forced labor workers over the border, but don't want a fence or tighter border control to prevent all Illegal Immigrants from crossing over.

Well to me, the fact it even exists in the US is a concern. Of course, I knew about the "slave labor" force of the illegals, that is why we have the problem we have with them now but these people who are bringing them here is the issue whether it be real slave labor or the low wage type of the illegals.

Slavery should not be allowed in any country. People are not to be bought or sold, period.

Well we can't be the world police, right? The UN certainly won't be, and you have strongly said it shouldn't be us enforcing human rights such as a no slavery rule, so what are we suppose to do? Just yell louder?

The U.S. government estimates that 800,000 to 900,000 men, women and children are trafficked across international borders every year, including 18,000 to 20,000 into the United States. Some estimate total worldwide slavery to be in the millions.

I said nothing about world police, the article states we take in to our country by force appx 17,500 a year of slaves. This is wrong and should not be tolerated at any level here. I did not state anything about policing other countries. We can refuse to trade with countries who condone it or any other diplomatic choice but not policing sovereign countries.

302 illegal immigrants arrested last week in Iowa.
Charges were filed for use of false IDs and SSN's.
297 plead guilty and were sentence to prison time or probation.
All will be deported.

This is not slave labor.
This is breaking known US laws.
This is criminal behavior.

What happens in other countries is the blame of their governments.
Their governments allowing exploitation of their people.

Damn dragoness, they already have American jobs that were outsourced. Now you wish us to feel guilty about what their own governments allow done to them.

We have enough problems with the illegal immigrants and their criminal activities.
We have enough problems trying to stop corporations with the help of our government from out sourcing our jobs.

Don't you think???

I say vote for Obama next nov. He will provide us with a "heaven" on earth by talking to other leaders, and when we die, he will gaurantee us 72 virgins in heaven, provided that we kneel and face Mecca to pray everyday. Besides, liberals think that ppl are not bad, just misunderstood.grumble

What the heck are you talking about? This article is about people that are actually brought here by force and work for nothing, forcibly.

I will say this on the illegal thing and nothing more, if we did not hire them here we would not have the problem we have, regardless to your obvious hatred of them.grumble

False accusations.
Unless you mean that I dislike criminals, and then you are absolutely correct.

Now as far as my post having nothing to do with the topic. You said,

Well to me, the fact it even exists in the US is a concern. Of course, I knew about the "slave labor" force of the illegals, that is why we have the problem we have with them now but these people who are bringing them here is the issue whether it be real slave labor or the low wage type of the illegals.

My post had everything to do with this post. I see none being held here against their will, and yet you stated that they are.
Show me,
give me a link,
They are here voluntarily and knowingly illegal.
By their own admissions and falsification of documents as I have presented in case!!!

Don't hate the player, hate the game....

k. I should have paid more attention. I admit it.

But what about the State Department? Take their word for it?

How about Justice Dept and FBI?

Its a mute point karma, There probably is a small number, but as the article says they are mostly from asia and eastern Europe, and are usually enslaved by people from their home country.

Mute, because she was referring directly to illegal immigrants in her post, I quote,
================================================================

Of course, I knew about the "slave labor" force of the illegals, that is why we have the problem we have with them now but these people who are bringing them here is the issue whether it be real slave labor or the low wage type of the illegals.
================================================================

Here are 905 more of the slaves she refers to,

http://www.townhall.com/news/us/2008/05/23/immigration_sting_nets_905_arrests_in_california

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says agents have arrested more than 900 people in California on immigration violations during a three-week sting targeting people who ignored deportation orders.

The agency said Friday that 495 of the 905 people arrested were targeted in the operation. The other 410 just happened to be on the scene when agents arrived. (This was a bonus)

We are winning and the rhetoric and disinformation just gets deeper and more desperate.
The 12 million illegals in this country are not forced into slavery. They wont even respond to deportation orders when they recieve them...

She didn't say 12 million. She simply stated that slavery was present. These people are smuggled in, fake or no paperwork. Yeah they are illegal but nor willing illegals. Not in the usual sense of the term.

The OP was originally about American companies moving from the US to other countries solely for the cheap labor.
That is a problem, not just for the workers in the other country whose governments allow it.
It is also a problem here in regards to the outsourcing of American jobs.

Somehow, while talking to sailor, she turned it to a personal agenda about the legalization of the illegal immigrants here n this country and her support for them.
When I responded, she got mad!!
Go figure....huh
