Is honesty the best policy? No matter how much it will affect someone you care about or wish to know and hope to be with in a negative sense? Or are some things better left unsaid? Can you handle it?

I'm always honest...sometimes downright blunt and direct. Depending on the topic. It's how I'd want people to be with me (and yes...I've had best friends be completely blunt with me on some very painful topics that, in the end, I was extremely glad they hadn't danced around it or kept their silence.)

You should always be honest...but be gentle in doing so....without honesty you have nothing

I want someone to tell me "brutally" if I'm being a jackass or have something hanging from my nose.

but that's hypocritical, because...(well I'd speak up about the nose thing)...but I hate the thought of hurting sommeone's feelings

Honestly, I tell people things that I know they don't want to hear, for their own good. They grumble at first but  me later.

OK...I guess "I" gotta be the "cliche" one.

You knew it would come sooner or later Faust.

You had something to hide
Should have hidden it, shouldnt you
Now youre not satisfied
With what youre being put through

Its just time to pay the price
For not listening to advice
And deciding in your youth
On the policy of truth

Things could be so different now
It used to be so civilised
You will always wonder how
It could have been if youd only lied

Its too late to change events
Its time to face the consequence
For delivering the proof
In the policy of truth

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before
Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Now youre standing there tongue tied
Youd better learn your lesson well
Hide what you have to hide
And tell what you have to tell

Youll see your problems multiplied
If you continually decide
To faithfully pursue
The policy of truth

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before
Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Edit after a sip of coffee: Pure honesty. If you "spare" me or can't take it, you're with the wrong person.

Yes, have you noticed lately some of my threads are 80's songs? But this one is fitting with something I just dealt with today. A girl on her that I talked to was really bothered by something from my past and doesn't want to talk to me now. This is happened to me a lot but over different things. Seems like no matter what, (Quote me on this because I speak truth) "Honesty is a double edged sword". And I think I just stabbed myself tonight....

Massive simplification: better now than later.

EDIT: I wish I had Jonathan's brilliant economygrumble

try withholding.....getting what your heart desires.....and then losing it for not being forthright

I won't hand you any BS.....it SUCKS NOW!
but do ya see the potential to suck a lot worse later.
Not saying be cavalier....but the truth is the only "real" way to cover your ass

When I say mixed replies, I mean not everyone is agreeing on the same thing..... Crazy
