Does he drink coffee a lot??? that could be it maybe offer him a breath mint every time you get around him...or just give him one of them breath freshener sprays...LOL

No because bad breath really would take away from my desire for intimacy. It is the major reason I don't date smokers. I feel I should take a person as they are or leave them alone rather than try to "fix" them. That is their choice.

If he were willing to help fix the problem, sure. Someone's breath smelling that foul all the time is actually indicative of digestive issues and such, so it's more than a simple issue of preference.
