I just thought I would throw this out there. do you find it offensive to ask someone if they are a chicano? I always thought it was, but thought I would get someother opinions.

Whether it's rude or not..I don't care.

My question is, why the hell would it really even matter?

Not if they are. But what difference does it make.

Would it be considered more polite if he asked her if she was Latino? Just a thought. But...why even ask?

What do they ask, when they only see a White Face?

Actually in that sense then yeah it is rude what does the nationality have to do with how she waits on someone. I waited tables for years when I was younger and actually had one customer that refused to let a male wait on him for to him all male waiters were gay and he did not like gays.

Besides Chicano is slang at least if one is going to ask there nationality they should at least ask the proper way. JMO

Depends on how and why someone asks. Although I have to say certain questions seem to be potential mine fields these days.

In some ethnic or racial groups even members of the group disagree about what to call themselves.

I've asked someone I am acquainted with about their heritage before but only after establishing a relationship of some sort with them. I can't imagine asking someone who was waiting on me in any establishment their ethnicity or sexual orientation.I do think that's a little forward.

asking about the ethnicity is a perfectly fine question in my mind, but asking like that bothered me.

What was the point? I think that probably counts as rude...
