I quit 2 weeks ago yesterday cold turkey. Get some cinnamon gum (the best kind I have found is that new gum called 5 (flare is the cinnamon flavor) and get ya some coffee stirrer straws so you can chew the hell out of them. It's worked for me so far.....when the cravings get real bad just chew the gum.

I used the patch when I quit. It helped reduce the cravings. They weren't as intense and didn't last as long. best of luck it's well worth the effort. flowerforyou

Get lots of gum and sugarfree candy! (suckers or jolly ranchers) Best of luck to you!

Also .. avoid places where you would most want for a cigarette (bar/out to eat) for a week or so. Change your routines around.

you can always get a prescription for Chantix. It helps you quit smoking. But it does cost a lot. Some companies have started paying for the prescription for their employees as an incentive to better their health. Plus (I can't remember the name of the company) but on the Chantix website, their is a company that might help you out with the cost of the prescription.

Well, I'll be right there with you in a couple of weeks (or sooner). Finishing the cigarettes I have and then quitting. Good luck to both of us! flowerforyou

If it helps, I quit about three weeks ago. I've found that I've either doubled or tripled my coffee intake, and am getting all kinds of yardwork done in the evenings.

Can't explain the coffee, you'd think it'd make the cravings worse, but it hasn't. But the yardwork is just keeping my hands and mind busy. I never had time to smoke at work anyway, but at home, I have to keep busy.

Keep your hands busy. Get your @ss to Walmart, buy yourself a couple of model airplanes (or cars), some paint and glue. The more tedious the project, the better you'll be.

Oh, and I've got one of my friends giving me a hug a day if I don't have a cigarette, it's good to have a goal that's achievable in the short term. Long term, a pack a day smoker saves $1500 a year, you've only got 50 weeks until you can get yourself something really cool.

Well, I guess I'll consider myself slowed down for a whole year then since I had medicine to help me out.

What does it matter how you quit? The end result is the same regardless.

That's why I'm doing it as well. I have health problems and I'm sure the smoking probably aggravates them.
