Topic: Are you naive, trusting or skeptical?

There are a lot of very dubious profiles that post in these forums.

When you see yet another 'why do nice guys..' thread, do you assume that its just another guy wondering the answer to the question? Or do you think, this guy is just asking to take the piss? he if fully aware that it will get a particular type of response.

The same thing seems to happen for many other threads too, where people just appear to be after attention. 'Ive got this problem', 'ive got that problem', 'he died', 'she died' etc etc you know the drill.

Can you spot a bs'er a mile off? Or do you assume that every thing you read is true? Does it bother you that you may have responded with heartfelt sympathy to someone that has totally fabricated their story, and they might be sitting there laughing at you for doing so?

I'm cynical. I don't believe what most people say, as most of it's pretty much a bunch of kaa-kaa.

A long time ago, i got laughed at for being genuine, and it made me a bit too aware of attention seekers, now i dont take everything as true. U get used to watching patterns...u recognise...it doesnt bother me much, i just try not to give them the attn they seek.

I would say i am not Naive.

Good show, this seems to be a popoular way to gain attention on here, the "please look at me post". When I see these I get to unload my silly random comments that will not feed this persons hunger for attention.

You will also notice the people responding to these topics as suffering from the same want of attention or just trying desperately to look like a caring considerate person, after all this is a dating site where being fake on the forums will get you a few extra friends.

I spot BSers from a mile away, I get tricked once in awhile, but I'm usually right on the money.

I don't think they all are BSers, I think some really don't know any better, but I don't give either much room, if you are an adult and you come to an internet chat to "fix" your issues, you have bigger ones than any of us here can address.

but then I'm a mean b*tch, so don't take my word for it...

I am Skeptical with a capital "S" lol. But you know what I figure if someone is laughing because they get a genuine response to a bogus post that is on them. I would rathe chance that 1% that are legit getting what they need than worry about the self entertainers. Are all pay attention to me posts too much? Sometimes sometimes not. People are human and sometimes you just got to vent or squawk a little bit to feel like you get what you deserve. At least they are trying not to be a total dormat. I just got to wonder how much announceing to the world that you are a victim doesn't amplify the problem by setting you up for more of the same. Are cyber get over it responses more common or effective maybe so at least when someone who has nothing to gain gives you and opinion it seems to have more credibility.

I read forum postings for their entertainment or informational value only and don't care if what I'm reading is "true" or not.

If the poster is asking a question I don't consider whether the question is "real"--I just give my best answer if I feel like answering and move on.

People usually reveal more of their true natures than they think they do, anyway, even when they are trying to be false--ESPECIALLY if they are trying to be false. That's what I consider the single most interesting thing about internet discussion forums. yours in Chaos, Scarlett

While I agree there are attention seekers and it can be quite annoying, I have to say I still believe in the good of most and that those posting "considerate and kind things" to someone in need is 99% of the time NOT to be seen as such but to be exactly what they are "kind and considerate"... The think that the majority is just bs'ing and attention seeking is not only being skeptical but cynical as well...

In all honesty, I try to not think about myself much. I don't know why. I would have to say that I'm naive in some ways. I'm not totally daft mind, I can spot a badly woven lie a mile off. I really try to put my faith in people because if you can't trust your friends, who are you gonna trust?
I'm a believer in genuine human goodness, but recently it's become harder to do so. People are more bothered with money then with friends.

OOOPs!
I should reread what I post because I donot mean to leave the impression that because I am skeptical, in my mind that would mean say ten percent, that all but 1% are bogus. What I wanted to say was even if only 1% were legit it is worth the effort. To me swimming up stream has always been worth the effort if it means only one person gets a fair shake.

When you have been on these kind of sites for along time, you should beable to notice these patterns and get a feel for who is being truthful and who is merely seeking attention.

I feel i am pretty good at spotting the bs, though i do admit i have been wrong before, and i know i will be wrong again in the future.

I guess i hate being fooled, so i do take a lot of notice and look at all the evidence available to make a decision on whether i think a post is genuine or not. If you look at everything available, you can get a good idea on this.

Apparently, I wasn't nice last night to a poster on here, after I gave him an "honest" opinion to his thread. So therefore, I suck.laugh
