Topic: Are the British too P.C.?

we have all gone insane in the attempt to offend no one and the result
is we seem to offend everybody. Political correctness is just another
attempt to sugar coat everything. Lets have a reality check, bad things
happen, bad people happen, and you are never going to erase that fact by
applying a coat of whitewash. If a certain word or phrase offends you
you have the right to be offended but the person who used the word or
prhase also has the right to use it. Freedom of speach will be the first
casualty of ultimate political correctness.

Now that the British Sailors have been released, an appropriate response
to Iran's act of piracy would be a cruise missle with the Union Jack
painted boldy across it's nose going through the front door of the
Iranian Parlament building while it's in session. They have to be
taught that not playing nice has serious consequences and you don't
teach that lesson with a terse letter.

"Thats the beauty of an education ... you can make a rant humorous ..."

Ooh, I like that! Can I use it?

You have an education I grant you that Belushi, but you if you kept up
your current events in your own country on how history lessons are being
changed to accommodate students from other countries you would not
direct your anger at me but at those teaching history lessons in you own
country.

Garden: For your first paragraph - so true!

Fitness: I'm really taking issue with Belushi because he treads so close
to 'baseless personal attacks' instead of discussing the issue.

Belushi: Your point about the problems in America is well made - I hope
you don't believe any of us that have spoken in this thread think that
'America is just fine' in the are of PC. But it isn't hypocritical to
question/criticize England - every nation is fair game.

gardenforge......you sir are right on the damn money. They will continue
to tant us untill the americans finally rip them a new one. Don't think
we can count on england to back us up any more. The political
correctness thats involved in our world is hurting us in more ways then
most people seem to realize. We have it bad
here.....England?...Germany?...France?....thank god I live in the
greatest country in the world.

Newguy: Oh, man, right after i try to dispel any 'nationalistic' motives
for needless argument (so we can focus on the constructive arguments)
you had to say that?

Arguing from a place of 'nationalist pride' isn't going to take this
conversation anywhere useful. New guy, i was only talking about the
last few words of your post, and I was mostly joking.

Why do you guys (mysterious man and newguy) post in the forums on
serious topics but not accept emails from males? Are you more
interested in just leaving comments than having a real conversation? I
hate to waste of other people's time by having longer conversations with
individuals through the forums.

Actually Garden, I read an article about a week ago (I meant to post
it but never got around to it) and the writer made the interesting point
that Iran is acting somewhat like a spoiled child right now and that the
last thing we should do is give them what they want (us bombing them).
It's an interesting point in that as I said in another response if we
bomb them they will be able to "rally the troops" and point out what a
"bully" the U.S. is being where if we continue to let them talk they
will eventually hang themselves with the slack we're giving them. That
said I like you cruise missle idea. lol

What I find curious about this is that lately the Brits have come under
attack for being intolerant of Muslims regarding the wearing of the
niqab in public. It seems that the PC thing to do would have been to
allow the women to keep wearing such garments so as not to offend their
religion.

I realize that, that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with school
curriculum, but I decided I wanted to throw it out there as an example
of the Brits also seemingly being unPC.

Fitness, I forgot to add that I am glad you put up a citation for us to
view. It helps to put things in perspective!

I fail to see why a black sheep would offend anyone.I think its the
adults who have their heads screwed on backwards.PC is another term for
kissing butt and I'm not down with that ever.
Freedom of speech is just that and you can be apologizing everytime some
whiny butt comes out of the woodwork.
In closing lets start stating the true facts in history etc and fukem if
they can't take a joke.drinker

I don't recall saying anything about the U.S. bombing them I said the
appropriate response for the British would be to send them a cruise
missle with the Union Jack painted on it.
