I have been writing to a scammer (knew he was) for maybe 5-6 weeks now. He was schmooozing me with a bunch of crap, calling me "honey," etc. I was just going along to see what his game was. Supposedly he lives in Wisconsin, then he said he was going to Nigeria for a "job." Yeah, right. Kept talking to him. Then 3 weeks after writing him he tells me he bought me a diamond ring, Say What?? We were only talking generic, so made no sense, oh well, really wanted to see how this game ended. Well Friday got a note that his hotel was robbed by armed bandits, took his visa, passport, all his cash, ID, and gold wristwatch, but the ring is okay as it was locked in his suitcase and he told them he didn't know the password (okayhuh), but he was beat up and going to the hospital, no money for food, etc., so here it comes, right?

Then no word until this a.m. when he rights that he needs $120 for a new passport, can't leave the country without it, is staying at the embassy, no money for food, etc. Guess I wasn't too helpful, told him I was trying to pay for my dad's funeral (the truth) and told him he could take the ring back, that would help him out, why didn't his company give him a draw on his pay, etc. Also his bank should be able transfer money from his savings into his checking (he said he couldn't get money out of his savings for some reason). Suspect I won't be hearing from my "honey" any more. Also suspect he (or they) are writing 20 or 30 women at the same time and wonder how many will send him money??? Pretty sad, he is probably on a beach in Cabo sipping Corona's and living the good life on the money he keeps scamming from women.

Oh well, another one bites the dust. ohwell

i wonder why they don't change up the country a bit and use something different than 'nigeria'. isn't that a red flag in and of itself?

I hope all women that are on these sites are aware of these scammers. I get so many long winded emails telling me how beautiful I am ect and wanting me to write them from my regular email. Most mention they are widow, with a child, also how sincere they are ect. I hit the delete and go on. Thanks for putting it on this site about these people. A good warning , never send anyone money you have never met and sometimes its not wise to give money to someone you have met..There are con men and women in person too.

The Russian ladies hit the men up here... Their scam is that they go to Moscow and find out they need a round trip ticket or they can't get a visa.. Then the hit come in for money... Once, I told the woman that I would buy a non-refundable airline ticket... never heard from her again... Seems scammers will do anything for money, even hurt people in the worst place... Sorry to read about your scam, hope your honest story may help others.... Better luck here...

Yeah, darn it, I was trying to come up with a creative way of telling him to send me the ring and I would keep it safe for him.
But, I didn't bother.

After all, if he were "really robbed" - wouldn't they take his computer? and the suitcase that he didn't know the password too as there obviously was something in there of value as it was locked?? Sorry, I worked in the prison system too many years. But, I was just curious to see where it went.

His e-mail before the robbery one told me he was coming home last weekend and would attend my dad's funeral with me - WHAT??? He is a total stranger, that would have been beyond weird. noway But the robbery messed that up, so now that is how he was setting me up to ask me for money.

Yeah, just send me the ring and we can call it even. laughbigsmile

And, FYI - I met him on another site, not Mingle, but there are lots of scammers all over.

Every time I hear the word 'Nigeria' I black out and wake up in the dumpster outside Western Union.

I have gotten several attempted scammers on mingle, the things I look for are; 1 not whithin driving distance and 2, less then standard english. These people are not the people in the picture, and they are often not in the USA. Also they will delete their profile right after contact and try to get you to IM or Email directly to them so that they dont get exposed by the mingle community. It sucks, but it can happen to anybody. The words, "honey, baby, sugar" and such are designed to get you to fall in love with a picture, certainly a picture that is not the person writing to you. Dont give up, I met a very attractive lady on mingle, but it took maybe 18months.

Was his name Willie Wonka, Kim?

Seriously, I never egg-on a scammer...I personally don't have the patience and definately not the time.

I either don't respond at all, or if I'm in a pissy mood, simply type back: "I have AIDS. Got any white bloods cells to spare?".

Seems to swat the nasty pests away either way.

Thanks, I have been on here for over 2 years now, have met a lot of great people and been played by a few. That is why I can see through them now, at least hope I can. I was just wanting to see his game. He was good though, writing for 6 weeks or more before he played his game, but his timing was good, the week of my dad's death and he knew I was planning the funeral and stressed over that. They are good at what they do. Guess he didn't like my "problem-solving" ideas versus sending him money. I hope the others he is writing to don't send him money either, but suspect he has made a fair amount over the years doing this. Really sad.
