Seeing as how how im blocked from posting on badmans blogs, i felt the
need to add this info about his topic.

Abusive husbands and lovers harass 74% of employed battered women at

jobs

husbands, ex-husbands, or boyfriends

happens more often than car accidents, mugging, and rape combined.

(Department of Justice figures

you know these numbers are staggering to say the least, but i wonder why
it is we dont ever hear the other side to this. could you maybe find
some info on male domestic abuse in american and possibly compare the
two. Im sure the numbers for both are probably higher than reported,
with the fear factor and embarrassment factors and all that goes with
being mentally and physically traumatized.

not trying to be argumentative, just honestly would like to know all the
stats on the % of domestic violence in america, no offense, but not just
the ladies- which is an outrage theres that many or any at all.

abuse is something that does not have sex. It could be physical or
psychological. And males or females can be abuse in the same way. The
difference is what is reported and what is not.

I'd like to know what percentage of these statistics are made based on
marriage? In other words what was taken into consideration when the
question of "domestic abuse" was being studied. Do you all realize
that the government is currently trying to pass legislature, that
individual states, are trying to pass legislature, that would NOT
PROTECT some people from "domestic violence or abuse"? Of course,
we must first define "domestic abuse" in order to give full credance to
the studies from which the statistics mentioned came from. Did that
study devine the word DOMESTIC?

In my parish the police department presses the charges and the DA
follows through. The reason being that the victims of abuse are afraid
to say anything. Also the victims will try to get the charges dropped
because the abuser tell them this is the last time or threatens them.

One thing that needs to be taken into accoutn with all of the
"percentages" and is not widely known.

lets say you and your other half are arguing about soemthing. Hell who
has never argued; and I mean a good argumetn where both sides are
yelling and stomping (NOT hitting or throwing or threatening, just
raised voices and walking hard)?

The neighbors think wwiii is going on and call the cops. The cops
arrive, ascertain everything is all right that nothing has happened or
is likely to happen. It is still documented as a report of domestic
violence. And this is used in those very same percentages that were
maed above.

Now I am ONT sayign it does not exist. I am not saying that the stats
up there do not exist. I just can not believe the percentage. Also,
and I know this from personal experience; your wife tells you to tell
her the truth and tell her if she is fatter than when you got together.
You tell her "Yes you have put some weight on, which is only natural But
it does nt change how I feel about you, you are guilty of emotional
abuse. THIS IS FACT! I have had cops tell me this. And personally it
is bull****.

Now, there is a lot of violence otu there yes. there is a lot thatis
unreported. However, there is also a lot of so-called violence that is
nothing of the sort, it is just immature adults making accusations of
abuse because they are upset with their other half. This is a direct
result of us not being ableto raise and discipline our children as they
grow up, they are told if your mom or dad spanks you tell someone and
they will go to jail. SO when they grow up (physically) they have
learned this lesson well, and whenever they get upset withyou they
threaten to csall the authorities etc.

And as a recap, NO I AM NOT SAYING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS NOT AN ISSUE.
NO i AM NOT SAYING IT DOENT HAPPEN. All I am saying is that these
so-called percentages are false numbers and hyped up in order to catch
your eye.

Well there's no doubt that these guys should be locked up for a long
time for abusing their wives/girlfriends/children. There is no excuse
for such an act, and they should be punished to the full extent of the
law. Unfortunately I don't think it's reported many of the times it
happens which is sad, and probably some of those numbers are low?

On the other hand, I'm curious of how they got the #1 reason for visits
to the emergency room was domestic violence? That may be true at one
hospital somewhere. But I work in the business, and I can tell you, at
least in my area, it's not true. And yes, we are trained in how to look
for and handle abuse cases and are required by law to report them.

Thank You palhaco, looks like you are questioning some of these numbers
too. That was the main reason for my remark, as ALL of those numbers
just seem to be abit too high. And like I said I do not discount it
happening, I just happen to know from experience what is really being
counted at times. My exwife has severe bipolar and is self mutilative.
She would fly off the handle at me, and when I would turn around and
tell her to either knock it off or leave, she woud go crying abuse, etc.
The last time it happened, Iw as nailing a picture (I think; it was 2
years ago now) to the wall, when she decided she had had enough with
housewrok and started screaming at me. I told her to knock it off or go
for a walkuntil she calmed down. She went called police and claimed I
threw the hamemr at her. THANK GOD the local police were competent and
not looking for a quck open shut case so to speak. I showed them where
she claimed I threw the hammer, and they started laughing (she was not
present) cuause if I had thrown it it would be sitting outside form
going THROUGH the wall. She later checked herself into the va hospital
that day and went for inhouse treatment where hse was officially
diagnosed with the bipolar and signs of possible schizophrenia (due ot
other issues that day with other people). But the point is, this same
thing happens to other poeple and the men get charged with domestic
assault and or abuse when it isnt any such thing. Not every time no.
We do have a problem with D.A. inamerica (on both sides of hte fence)
but the numbers are definitely portrayed innacurately.

daniel48706 i am afraid your comments on this members numbers with this
article being "a bit too high" are very valid in the REAL WORLD. Being a
survivior of not only attempted murder but yet another abuser I can say
her numbers are correct. Sadly we cannot even get a total count or
correct number or % as so much domestic violence remains a 'secret'.
Hellgirl I stand and applaud you.drinker

Barbie, I am sorry that you have gone through this, but, on the chance
of making you upset, I have to disagree and say that just because you
have been through it (and I truly wish you hadnt) doe snot mean that 95%
of all women in the united states or more are battered and abused. I am
sorry, but it is not believeable. If it IS true then I would like to
see some facts about it, and if those facts are studies I want to see
the studies themselves, and the reports that were studied etc. Like I
said earlier, there are a LOT of cases where the YOUNG (still a child
really in theemotional sense) girl gets upset with her boyfriend, and
claims he was mentaly abusive to her. Nw I fully believe inmental
abuse, but you need more than just the person saying it happened and
what happened. You need PROOF not just word of mouth, and most times
with "emotional" abuse as an example it just is not proveable. and yet
the man gets branded even though he has not been proven.

Palhaco's photo

Well I said that some of the numbers reported may be a bit LOW because
not everyone who is abused reports it.

As far as the ER just talking from personal experience in my area, it
seems that one number may be a bit high....

"The number-one cause of women's injuries is abuse at home. This abuse
happens more often than car accidents, mugging, and rape combined"

I would really love to find out where this statistic came from, cause I
guess women never slip in the bath tub, or stub their toe, or cut
themselves on a knife while washing dishes....

Forgive me for being satirical here, I am not trying to disparage the
problem of domestic assault, I just can not stand to see so called
statistics that are not valid.

And if the above quote is correct, then it would be MORE than 95 % of
all women in the us.

Working in DV we get stats in the community every morning and no they
are not that high in my opine.

However Domestic violence..is beyond just women and children it is
amoung; ie

grown adults beating their parents etc.....DV has many outlined
areas.......Older sibling beating on their smaller siblings is all so an
epedemic..

which when it is reported things are done about it .

Most of the the last two topics I have typed go hidden as well,

as sextual assult.........

Another topic that is horrific. As well as incest.

There are alot of DV stats on all this and more.

Unfortunately!

too true tulip and that is my point. a lot of times they get all lumped
together into ONE category that should be entitled general domestic
violence, or somethign along that line; however, it is lumped under
abuse ofwomen all too ofetn even when it does not involve a woman. Know
what I mean?

tantalizingtulip's photo
Wed 04/11/07 09:13 AM
daniel all that I typed, is all in one in the DV network..

beatings ,verbal abuse, mental abuse any kind of assult or battery is
considered Domestic violence..in the family unit.

Wed 04/11/07 09:21 AM
i am not belittling the fact that domestic violence is wrong but it
needs to be applied evenly

my sister-in-law attacked my brother and the sheriff
looked at him then looked at her and just laughed

and said yeah like you needed to call us

but if he protected himself by hitting back what do you think would have
happened

and i have witnessed female agreesion several times

i think the stats are a tad bit off

tantalizingtulip's photo
Wed 04/11/07 09:33 AM
adj it is addressed and in my community they both get arrested even if
one didn't hit back it is a screwed up system since the oj thing and new
laws, past after that event...

it depends where ya live I guess...

dunno

Not enough men come forward.

But we do have referals for them when they do..

it is just rare ...due to feeling ashamed perhaps..

daniel48706's photo
Wed 04/11/07 09:46 AM
feeling ashamed and unmanly yes...

and what I was refferring to tulip is that like in the topic of this
thread, people tend to take the stats for dv as a whole and apply it
just to the stats of women who have suffered...

Palhaco's photo
Wed 04/11/07 10:03 AM
Yeah, I definitely see more elderly abuse than spousal abuse. And child
abuse is even worse, and that can be from both the father AND the
mother. Thankfully where I work we hardly ever see child abuse....

Where I work mostly deal with the mom's issues..but there are children
there, for refuge. With their moms of course).
