That is just so sad. Things like this just shouldn't happen to children.

You know I don't live in a culture where 10 year olds are married off, but this statement offends me none the less.

I understand your sentiment, however I disagree with the stated reason the parents should not have allowed it.

I think it is awful that there culture and religion allow this to be common place, however saying all men are pedophiles waiting to happen is disgusting.

I can't understand why parents would do that to their child...for goodness sakes! She's 10! No matter what promise was made. She's still learning the responsibilities of life and so on. Absolutely heartbroken...but I'm so glad she's out of the marriage.

Its Yemen. Its their laws and their culture. Its not our rite to say. Its none of our business.
If they disapprove of it let them stop it.
Its not done here because we disapprove of it. Their country is their country not ours.
This is exactly why a lot of cultures hate us.
We butt in!

One reason to Keep Radical Islam in CHECK in America maybe Islam in General the religion shows no respect for women and in general gives them little hope than being a toy for a man If I were a Woman the Advance of Islamic Beliefs in the United States would be Truly frightening America is doing the right thing by trying to teach young girls in Afghanistan you teach a Woman to read she teaches her daughter and then the Islamic world will hopefully get something it sorely needs what America went thru nearly a century ago a Sexual Revolution

Radical Islam is at the same age-era, like Christianity was back in th early Middle-Ages. That's how backward it is. Remember those stories, back when people wouldn't want to convert, would be beheaded or burnt on the stake. That's where they are right now, in the 21st century. In approximately 5-6 hundred years from now, they might reach the Enlightening age, and hopefully they discover stuff like, it's ok to teach everyone to read and write.

So put on a uniform and go fight for them by yourself.

We didnt always respect women in this country either. Then brave pioneering women took matters into their own hands. Many paid a price for their defiance but they won.

Let the women of Yemen do the same and worry about our own troubles.
We have many!

I don't think anyone wants to really get into their internal affairs, but when their manipulations and trying to spread their radical influence interferes with the rest of the world, then you can't let up on them.

In radical Islam (example: Taliban in Afghanistan), many things you just cannot do or face harsh punishment, such as death. YOu can't read certain things, can't watch certain thing and not allowed to do anything that somehow doubts Mohammed and/or his teachings. With all these restrictions, you go backward..right against progress and production..you end up right back at herding sheep and praying 5-6 times a day as your daily activity. By the way, check Afghanistan's history for example, they were part of prosperous and progressive empires, before radical islam spread over and destroyed and sent the entire region into poverty and nest of over-zealous religious nutcases.

I disagree, personally they can hate me all they want, I disapprove of these practices.

I am not saying lets go attack Yemen and occupy there land to change there laws, I am saying that cultures like this will continue to get pointed out as barbaric until something happens about it, believe it or not when a group of people want to come to a negotiating table and the opposite side explains why they are not up to snuff on human rights, things can happen, but nothing will ever happen if you never point out barbarism, if you quietly say oh its there culture, you say we shouldn't criticize?? . . . THAT is WRONG, to quietly sit by without a word of opposition is enabling the practice.

I am sure there are plenty of people in that culture who would agree with me that having sex and beating a ten year old girl is wrong, however just like you they are conditioned to look the other way . . . well it will never change until the spell is broken and these conditioned people see that others will stand up and speak out.

Personally I respect this little girl and her family for being brave enough to speak out about it, it is this kind of mindset that will make things change.

So put on a uniform and go fight for them by yourself.

We didnt always respect women in this country either. Then brave pioneering women took matters into their own hands. Many paid a price for their defiance but they won.

Fanta, you do not have to kill people to make change. Sometimes you do have to wait for the previous generation to die, but if you have done nothing to educate the next . . . it will continue.

I am a citizen of the world, science is my religion. This matters to me. The troubles of this country matter to me, but its not like petty comments like your change that both still matter to me.
