I've been through this cycle 3 times now with the same results...

Started working out again yesterday.
Guys, you know what happened...
A nice woman takes me through the circuit even though I've already told her I'm familiar with the machines and contrary to my doper looks, I can read...
We go through each one, light weight. She's telling me, go easy, use minimal weight and get back in the swing, make sure you're doing it correctly for maximum focus. She's gone through the circuit with me and tells me if I want, I can go through on my own.
Now, I know I heard her correctly as I've reposted it here...
What did my brain hear?
"hey fatty fat fat, you don't have much time to get in shape, you won't feel a thing tomorrow, put as much as you want on the machine and go for it, make sure you're doing it correctly for maximum focus."
Damned hormones only let me hear one thing...
As I'm feeling the burn (Hmmm, don't remember hearing her say anything about burn), my brain is using that old adage, "No pain, no gain" or "No brain, no pain" or "Old man, don't strain", something like that.
Last night, I went out and I'm thinking, "Congrats, you're getting back on track. Come summer, you'll look decent, it wasn't as bad as that nice woman said it might be" (foggy memory hearing the words "you'll probably be hurting a little tomorrow"). The night goes on and still no pain. I'm thinking "Hell yeah, you did it right this time and you're not as old and out of shape as you thought you were", tonight was fun. I go to sleep pretty quick.
Time to wake up...
"I can't feel my arms, oh, wait, there they,,,, holy sh*t"
Foggy memories of her words coming clear as a bell now...
"You'll probably be hurting a little tomorrow"
Trying to remember if she said something more like,,,
"If you act like a dumb@ss, you will be in extreme pain tomorrow"
I'm thinking that might be what she said...
Today might be a good day to quit smoking since I can barely move my arms,,, think I'll just set the food on the table and plop my face in it and hope for the best...

I've been on and off workout routines several times

as soon as the surgery on my arm heals (it was worked on Friday) I want to get back into working out

but I always start with a MUCH lighter weight than I think I can handle. Just because I hate that ache that comes the next day

I wasn't laughing AT you. Just how you wrote the story. You should be a writer. Excellent story teller.

I know what you mean. When I start back walking every spring I have to suffer with shin splints. They've always been bad for me and they suck eggs.

It blows me away when people pay to work out. I work so damn hard I don't need to work out.

It makes me laugh when people start working out again and think they are taking it easy when in reality they are doing a lot more than they had one in a long time in a concentrated (Focused, HA HA) fashion resulting in a heavy build up of Lactic acid in their muscles because they don't have the faculties to eliminate the stuff fast enough. That is the burn you feel. The whole "drink water" thing can aggravate that if you drink too much. That is where Gatoraid comes in. The salts in it help cut down on Lactic acid a little buy using your internal chemistry. that and it makes me piss like a horse.

I hope you rotate through your work out and spread what you do around your bod. The whole, arms, then legs, then abs, then cardio thing is not anywhere near as effective as a balanced work out routine.

You are right though, no pain no gain!

Some light Cardio after a work out helps get rid up lactic acid build up too.

You want to eat 5 smaller meals a day too since you are trying to tone up I believe.. A complex carbohydrate and 20 grams of whey protein first thing in the morning... Make sure to eat an hour before your work out and at least 40 grams of protein as soon as you can after your work out... Read up on peaks and spikes in insulin levels in your body and right before bed-NO Carbs!! but eat a slow digesting protein 20 grams of caspian... This will help you in your fast of sleep...

Hit the sauna after a work out and do stretching for at least 45 minutes on off days... I suggest yoga... but what ever you want bro... Yoga's cool because their is always hot chicks in there and it's like a pre work out to your work out...ha!
