It really is dependant on the 2 people involved.. their individual wants/needs/desires.. and their joint goals. There is no tried & true answer.

For some.. it is extremely successful!
For others.. their worst nightmare.

I think in one way it would be fine cause Im not the type that has to see my significent other every day but on the downside when I wanted to see them we both would have to shell out alot of money to come see each other to hang out or f**K which would really be a pain in the a**!

If you cant afford to be in a LDR, and if you aren't mature enough to be in one, then it possibly isnt for you. Of course sex is a part of any relationship, but if thats one of your main goals then you are gonna need someone more local.

I dont have an LDR and I have never had one...I was just merely stating an opinion and seeing what others thought about the subject...and FYI sex is not the most important to me by far.

They are bad in that you don't get to see each other very often but they are good in that they have foundation on total trust, honesty, and something more than just a flitting lust.

I completely believe they are possible though if both are committed to making it work and neither have the desire to wander away.

I don't know that one could have one forever, as I would think you'd both want to be with each other more and more. But I definitely think they can work! At least until you both can figure out a way through it! flowerforyou

Well then i certainly wouldnt aim to be in one.

They just happen when you meet people online or if other cirumstances arise.

They are more difficult than a local relationship, but are worth it if you have found the right person. You have to be the right kind of person yourself.

Only the rarest of LDR's can last indefinately. Eventually you need figure out a way to be together permanently.

I don't think that they work out, long-term, most of the time. I think that if you decide you are going to entertain the possibility of a long-distance relationship, you have to be (a) very trusting (b) very trustworthy (c) financially able to do so (d) able to handle loneliness well (e) mature (f) flexible and (g) in a position to move if that becomes desirable/necessary.

LDR's can be very successful but you have to keep in mind, at some point, something's gotta give. You need to move, they need to move or the relationship will need to end. For most people, it's very draining financially and emotionally as well. These are things you need to know about yourself and your partner GOING INTO the relationship. If neither one of you is able or willing to move, then the relationship will go nowhere fast. If you are the jealous type (or they are), if you/they are insecure, ditto. You will spend 90% of your time (or more) apart, you HAVE to be able to trust yourself and the other person.

That being said, my current relationship started out as an ldr, he was 5 hours away. Close enough for many weekends but still pretty far. We both knew going in that something at some point would have to give. Which it did, he moved up here a year ago. But we knew that the ldr couldn't last forever.
