Which bothers you more?

a) The Apocalypse,
b) what you'll wear tommorrow night
c) The lotto numbers this week
D) Swine flu.

Seems 95% of Nz actually voted more for the Apocalypse than Swine flu.. Yet why is Swine flu getting more media attention than 4 Scythe wielding skeletons foretold by some book written millenniums ago?

Whats your plan of attack if your family or freinds get sick?
What if you get sick?
Do you even care?
Or do you live in the western world where Flu only kills people who live with animals (chickens/cows/pigs), of visit the "slums" of 3rd world countries?

Birds, Pigs and what next? Donky Flu.. Beware sleeping with donkeys.

The swine flu was not much different than most other strains. There is some evidence that it is a mutated version of flu that hit some years ago. This mutation would explain why many older people appear to be immune to this version and Swine Flu mostly affected the young.

I would rather have the flu than a cold because it is over quicker.

My boyfriend and I had the swine flu recently. It was, for me, a really bad case of the flu that's still lingering a month later. He got over it in about a week. My immune system is compromised, though. It was the flu, worse than a cold, better than say pneumonia. I had my ex-husband keep my son a couple of extra days so I could get the house bleached down and disinfected so that hopefully he didn't catch it (he didn't). It's now making a run through his school system.

It's not that big a deal.

What bothers me more is the media machine of sensationalised drama... and the programmed and conditioned masses buying into it....

even the 95% who bothered to be surveyed.

It is possibly a dangerous endemic waiting to pounce on those who are less than capable of sanitary habitation, good nutrition and access to medications...ie the impoverished, the homeless and the challenged.

Considering that "all" influenza strains mutate from either mammals or avian type animals, as well as the fact that some normal strains of influenza have caused more deaths than this "swine" flu has, I'm not worried at all. Doesn't it seem strange to anyone else that this big scare came at a coincidental time, maybe throwing the attention away from more important issues in the country.....like the economy?

What economy?

there has been no 'economy' in most westernised countries since time began...there is nothing economical about greed.

Agrees with bross162.

I can certainly see why the gov.t keeps secrets with as amazingly stupid as people went over it. A few deaths and sick people compared to regular colds and flu does not constitute an epidemic. Get back to me when we are looking at 2 million people or so.

That h1 was far enough removed from the pigs that it couldn't even go back to them. I still have to worry about whether some idiot around here will shoot my pet pigs, and the pig rescues are still dealing with the fallout from pigs being dumped by fools with no brains.

yet aids has millions of cases and possibly millions of deaths

Aids isn't air borne flu is. On the flip side, if it became a deadly pandemic and the government wasn't warning people....which is worse. Be prepared and not need to be, or need to be prepared and not be?

Of course it doesn't do us any good if the US doesn't actually lockdown the borders and quarantine people going back and forth. China at least, appears to have the right idea in that.
