The housing market has bottomed out .. so they say. At this point the only fear is will you still have a job next week to pay the mortgage. So, if you have a stable job, now is the time to buy.

i see house buying as investing right now and not buying a home

There are good deals right now for first time buyers. You might want to consider a foreclosure (bit of a hassle) or an auction off. Even consider a short sell, good deals just a bit more work than a traditional buy. Overall I would say go for it...eventually investors will jump on and that drives real estate up. Depends on where you are buying too, some markets are holding their own.

If you mean renting, there are a lot of people without jobs or with hours cut. Something to keep in mind.

If I had the money, I'd buy two or three.

now is the best time in 50 years to buy a house. Prices are depressed lower than the real value of most homes

BUT now is the worst time to try to get a mortgage. Banks are not lending except to those with the most pristine credit

if you can get the credit jump on it

Yep, I wish I was in a situation right now to buy a second home (bigger and one floor plan) and get the other ready to sell at a later date. Just can't afford that second mortgage. If you have a backup plan in case you lose your job, I think it's a great time to buy.

I believe it is a buyers market, lots of good deals out there for buyers, not so much for sellers...If I could I would buy an investment property. Go for it and good luck to you!
