I knew the manmade global warming believers would come in and entertain me! Thanks!! 
I can dig up half a dozen peer reviewed papers that support AGW, do you have something useful to rebut those papers, or a paper that does? Just this week I read an article in Skeptical Inquirer that dealt with this issue of what is the scientific consensus. They highlighted how a group of ultra right wing conservative politicians backed by fossil fuel energy companies are spreading 100% of the mis-information. Does that mean that all global warming must then be man made, of course not, but it does mean that a lot of the confusion regarding the topic has been disseminated purposefully. We most certainly should take more time to ensure the research being done is as accurate as we can make it, but we also need to do our scientific community a service in not spreading information that is not backed up with hard data. So unless you have some hard data and want to discuss it, Id hope you would think twice before posting at all. Micheal Chrichton and a number of others have debunked this pseudo-science, but if you really need help, I'll dig up some stuff for you when I get a chance. Crichton didn't debunk it. He did show inconsistencies and the ability to read the data however you choose. The interesting part, to me, is his take on the politics and power struggles behind the issue. |

There is DNA proof that a polar bear migrated inland and mated with a different kind of bear. The offspring was shot and tested because they did not know what kind of bear it was. Global warming was blamed.
So ice will melt and our oceans will steal some of our shore lines. Humans are stupid for building homes and hotels right at the shore line anyway. Looks to me they would be smarter than that. Also, I don't understand people who build cities at the foot of active volcanoes. Then we are supposed to feel sorry for them when the volcano blows. DUH. Yellowstone national park is nothing but a mega volcano. If and when it blows, it will take half this country with it. Earth is dangerous place to live, that's for sure. It is for the bold and adventuresome soul to incarnate here. The object of the game is to live to a ripe old age without being eaten by a bear, or killed by some natural disaster or by the other humans who live here. Good luck and have fun. |

without man......................................none of it would be an issue, because nature, instead of ringtones and fast food, goes on through eons, fluctuating here and there, but naturally.... man leaves nothing and i mean nothing alone, when there is personal gain. killing off whole species of animals to extintion, and people too! there are over 100 tribes of north american indians now extinct. wiped out by settlers and soldiers....100! these are people! and these..."ancestors" of the people that are here now, wiped them off the face of the globe...... |

of course the earth is either warming or cooling. It's not gonna just freeze in place and stay static. And a hundred years is too brief a time in the timeframe of the planet to draw conclusions
but a compendium of glacial ice core CO2 data extrapolated and modeled to represent global temperatures over 1000 years heavy gray line is the weighted average heavy black line is actual recorded temperature data 
EDIT: oh sorry, this is only North American glacial temperature data and because of that is only regional. I dunno if you can stretch regional data to be indicative of the global situation. But it is suggestive |

This doesn't prove that man did it, or that it's a problem, or that man can "fix" it. Human overpopulation is more of an issue. After the Dinosaur died there was a time when Lystrosaurus roamed in numbers rivaling ours and no one has an explanation why they died out.
One theory is disease but another is severe climate shifts. Nobody has a clue really but there was a time where they were not only the largest animal walking but it was also roaming most of the planet in different sub flavors. Now think about the Ice Age. There was more than one. Our environment is in flux. Once upon a time it was CFCs destroying the Ozone. The fact is that Ozone is produced by UV. It reacts with just about everything. Granted our contributions are not helping but several times out planet was either a huge popsicle or a huge desert. The last 10K years the climatic conditions have been reasonably stable but before then things went from hot as hell to colder than a witch's teat in a brass bra in no time flat. The great ice Age everyone romanticizes is thought to have happened in a matter of days and stayed like that for thousands of years and there is no written history of the era because that was out prehistory! Ice Ice baby! I have a tough time buying what all the propeller heads have to say because none of them can agree on any thing. They all so badly want to be right. I think this is a clear cut case of "Chicken Little" Syndrome. Lets all panic about something we really have no clue as to why it is happening. There is more to this than cars and cow farts! Still there are WAY too many people on this planet! Nuff said! |
