of course it's pointless

you just say "aye aye" and carry on smartly

(you'll hear that a LOT over the next few years)

Maintenance is maintenance. If they want you to do it you gotta. That's life in the military! Some things don't make sense.

What's the difference between furlong and liberty?

Liberty is short-lived, furlong is for long.

liberty is navy/marines speak

liberty is going home at the end of the work day, or getting to go into town after work when not in your homeport

leave is vacation time

furlough is army speak and I dunno what it means

Of course it's pointless. They're training you to expect pointless orders, that you follow without question.

Dig a ditch, fill it up. Get used to it, soldier.

I come from a landlocked country, so we have no navy.

We have no air, either, so no af.

We do have an army, footsoldiers. Leggy, more than army. But we don't have furloughs.

So we don't know what we don't have.

furlough is a unit of measurement, as in distance. I can not remember what it is equivelant to. i.e It is 7 furloughs to the next town

umm that would be a furlong

1 furlong = 201.16800 meters = 1/8th of a mile

oh hahaha
you beat me to it

The officer metered my car travelling in a school zone at 2,897 furlongs per fortnight.

Was I guilty?

sometimes in dangerous ports (Caracas, Venezuela was one) we would get "Cinderella Liberty" meaning that we had to be back on board the ship by midnight
