Obama’s Team Crosses the Rhetorical Line

Many Americans took off work and sacrificed family time this past August to attend congressional town halls, where they voiced opposition to a government-run overhaul of their personal health care choices. They hand painted signs, grabbed their children and drove to their local church or school gymnasium for valuable lessons in community organizing and democracy. While they lived the Rockwellian version of American discourse, they were called names, labeled as ‘too organized’ or “un-American”, and likened to mobs, Nazis and Fascists. And now President Obama’s team has designated September 11 as the day to liken conservatives to Al Qaeda terrorists.

Today, President Obama’s campaign organization “Organizing for America” sent out a notice to its “grassroots” supporters. It asked them to wage a coordinated phone campaign for health care by calling their U.S. Senators on September 11 – also known as Patriot Day in honor of the thousands of Americans killed by Al Qaeda terrorists eight years ago. It goes on: “All 50 States are coordinating in this – as we fight back against our own Right-Wing Domestic Terrorists who are subverting the American Democratic Process, whipped to a frenzy by their Fox Propaganda Network ceaselessly re-seizing power for their treacherous leaders.” Please read that again.

Typically when this type of outrageousness is unleashed on the American public, the appropriate response is to recall the webpage and explain the gray area, with phrases such as ‘that was taken out of context’ or ‘we didn’t mean that conservatives were actually terrorists’ or ‘that was written by a junior staffer who has been admonished’. But that should not be sufficient this time. There are several lessons America must learn from this:

Bipartisanship: Rather than rally our nation, which is certainly more divided than ever, they seek to make those divisions even more distinctive this September 11. The President often talks about reaching across the aisle, working with people of differing viewpoints, but that rhetoric is not matched by this reality.

Zealots: This type of irresponsible rhetoric can make dissent against the President seem dangerous. Down the road, the President could paint his detractors as nothing more than right-wing zealots bent on destroying his vision for the nation. Remember, these ‘zealots’ are not smuggling weapons, they’re smuggling poster board and markers. They’re not flying planes into buildings; they’re flying to see their parents for Thanksgiving.

Free Press: How does it help our nation to rally against a free press? If Fox News doesn’t report the story as the White House sees it, does that make them a “propaganda network” as it says on today’s release? Who are the “treacherous leaders” that Fox News is reporting to by the way? These questions need answering.

Memorial: September 11 should be a day to grieve and remember, not a day to lobby for government-run healthcare. It certainly should not be a day to demonize fellow Americans. America’s enemies are violent extremists, bent on bring this nation to its knees, not soccer moms, dads and senior citizens who may disagree with one’s political or policy views.

Results: Will a single American become more enamored with the President’s health care plan, if they are called a terrorist? Will the country become more unified? This is not a strategy that will build consensus, rather it will end health care reform. All Americans want reform; they differ on the details. No reform will be possible in this toxic political environment.

President Obama has a way of deflecting the bad behavior of his subordinates. It is certainly true that he does not get up every morning and write all of his own press releases, and refresh his own website. But he is responsible and accountable for its content. It is time for the President to stop campaigning. He should eliminate his “Organizing for America” website immediately. He needs to stop embracing the rising sun seal of Obama/Biden ‘08 and instead embrace the great Presidential seal of the White House 2009.

On September 11, 2008 then-Presidential candidate Barack Obama said: “Americans across our great country came together to stand with the families of the victims, to donate blood, to give to charity, and to say a prayer for our country. Let us renew that.”

Let us renew that indeed. We should never degrade that day’s events to call those who oppose a policy “terrorists.” Mr. President, this September 11; remember the heroes, remember the victims, remember the families who wept that evening and pray for America’s continued resolve and wisdom, because together we are stronger. Divided we fall.

Wow, what a shock coming from conservative Heritage Foundation.

I'll tell you I would not want to be Obama in this atmosphere. He must get up in the morning and think to himself, what group on my side or the other is going to say or do something I have to renouce. And will I have time to address it before some one spins if for me, and is it my endless obligation to address ever little thing someone says or does, considering how many many many people are staying this or that these days.

Some must think he sits in his office with a fly swatter just waiting for the next fly to cross his path. Oh but wait, there are so many flys and so little time.

uh. suspended meaning they someone's a$$ is in a sling over this. The first line in the article indicated it had been suspended..

That doesn't mean that the Obamatons have all of a sudden lost their taste for the rhetoric.

Nanci Pelosi still thinks of her opposition as Nazis and facists.

There is still the matter of the memo "warning" of a surge in "right-wing militia activity".

Harry Reid still held an "invitation only" pro-health care rally and called it a town hall meeting..

All that despite the fact that it's the Union Members, and pro-Democrat protestors who are the ones commiting acts of violence against persons and property, SEIU beating up the memorabilia vendor in St, Louis and the incident in Denver..

And I'm not even getting into the disgrace and utter lack of civility and taste that is the attempt to hijack the sacred date of September 11 for the purposes of labeling and libeling Free Americans as "terrorists".

Edit:

furthermore, it doesn't matter if it was taken down. the fact remains that the former Obama Campaign Apparatus posted a memo to its legions that called refered to it's politcal opposition as "terrorists". Totally beyond the pale and totally unacceptable and if it weren't for media sources such as Heritage, it would have been as a tree falling in the forest. NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN etc would never have reported on a Pro-Obama website (indeed the website formerly known as ObamaForAmeica) refering to Obama's politcal opposition as "terrorists". It would have been swept under the rug like Charlie Rangel's tax-evasion..

If You can't get the simplest part about what Pelosi actually said correct, then reading the rest of you rethoric is useless to me.

typical..

I'm sure that you feel that facts which are incongruent with your view pretty much ARE useless to you..

I never referenced what she said. I refered to what she thinks of her opposition. And I stand by that.

Did Harry Reid not hold an "invitation only" "townhall meeting", that only his campaign supporters and union members were "invited to"??

and Willing2 brings up a point that I had left out. Yes, our homeland security department under Obama now classifies war veterans as potential terrorists.. way to honor your veterans!!

This Obama is the man you're so prooud of?? why? I want to know why..

because he makes a good speech??

because he makes you feel all tingly inside?

because he makes you feel like less of a racist?

because you think his being president makes other people think you're less of a racist?

what? what is it?

how much more clear does he have to be to make you see him for what he is??

how much more explicit does his political apparatus, (e.g. OFA, ACORN, SEIU) have to be before you see it for what it is??

What gets me is it's ok for them to call people who don't agree with policy trying to be pushed through without debate or bi-partisanship terrorists.
But you better not call the ones who have blown up our buildings and killed thousands on 9/11, and those fighting our soldiers over seas dare I say it again terrorists.

I'm in St. Louis. Where did you hear that he was a memorabilia vendor?noway Where did you hear that it was a union employee? There weren't very many union members there.

"pro-Democrat protestors who are the ones commiting acts of violence against persons and property"

I went to a health care reform rally last week. The people were peaceful. At the edge of the rally people that were against it were hollering during the opening prayer and throughout the speeches. They blasted a car horn for a long time too.

Extremists exist on both sides. That means that pro-Republican protesters are committing acts of violence against person and property too. I think that more of them are doing it then the pro-Democrats.

I can point you to several instances where pro-Democrat protestors/activists have committed acts of violence. Take Maurice Schwenkler of Denver, Colorado. Arrested at the 2008 RNC protest in Minn. Arrested in Denver for vandalizing the Dem. Party HQ's after which Dem spokesperson said that it HAD to be racist, hate-mongers from "the other side" only to find out that it turned out to be one of thier own, one of thier own paid campaign workers. Upon being confronted by this, she said basically the same thing you say.. well it's happening on both sides.

Just yesterday, its been reported a Pro-Obama care protestor confronted some anti-Obama care protestors, punched one in the face and bit his finger off.. a 65 year old man was punched in the face and had his finger bitten off by an Obama care supporter..

I know plenty about that event. It happened in my city. It was covered extensively here. That video doesn't tell the whole story.

My Senator, Russ Carnahan held a town meeting and the subject was aging.

Repeat: The subject that was to be discussed was aging!

Right-Wing protesters came in and changed the subject to health care by force. They started the free-for-all. Paid protesters threw the first punch.

A Baptist minister, blind in one eye, was beaten and his shoulder was broken. He was also a SEIU member. He's the one on the ground getting stomped on at the beginning of the video. SEIU members jumped in to protect him.

Edit:

Did you see the guy that said he was selling his flags and claimed that he was attacked? He was walking around and yelling just fine.

Well...the next day he was in a wheelchair.whoa

He wasn't just selling flags. He sold buttons with Obama in black face and another with him smoking pot. The guy with the broken shoulder had asked him why he was selling offensive material and he pointed at the buttons. The guy selling the stuff slapped his hand away. The Baptist minister told him to not put his hands on him. Then the guy selling the buttons knocked him down with a punch.
