Did you that in the state of Arizona it is legal to own a gun, not register it? it is also legal to carry it on your person as long as it is in the open without a license. Yet i never knew it was illegal to brandish it in protection of someone, like my mother. That cost me five months in Maricopa county jail and now I am facing going to trial and if i loose i will be looking at 39 years in prison. I have my family beside but its hard to understand how i can defend my country with honor and loose twelve friends yet i cannot come home and defend my family. Please keep me and my family in your prayers and keep yours close for you never know if you may loose them in any way.

May the deity of you belief grant you longevity and prosperity,

The greatest degree of safety in our current social situation is either for everyone or nobody to own a gun.

yeah there is more to the story, but the bottom line is everything is stating that i was protecting my mom from a drunken agressor. He "feared for his life" so I'm the one gettin screwed.

I think the bottom line is that you only knew "part" of the laws and didn't display common sense... Owning a gun isn't something to be irresponsible about.. Did he have a gun? I'm thinking that you could have 1) called 911 2) defended her with your hands 3) jumped in between them 4) used a stick... There are so many "other" ways to defend oneself/family without a gun.. Like I said if he had one that's a different story but still the outcome wouldn't have been as it was without anyone getting hurt...

Well, it's your mom.
Kill the mother****er if he ever hurts her. As young men I think we can both identify with that.

well the biggest thing is that i had only been home from Iraq for 1 year and 9 days. In the Army we are taught to take control of a hostile situation and that's what i did.

Pulling out a gun in a domestic dispute is never a good idea. However you get a good lawyer and if you have no priors you'll prolly get off with time served.

I can appreciate any young man wanting to protect his mother. Not sure that I'd want my kiddo to KILL anyone, but seeing as I've never been in that situation...........I dunno.

I too think that there had to have been other ways to resolve the matter than with a firearm.

I hope that the truth is spoken and justice prevails. flowerforyou

its harder to use PTSD here in Az. they stop everything until they find out if you're competent and if not they rehabilitate you and start over

this country has been like that for years...you can use a gun to defend your country, but not your family or yourself w/o complications

that sucks... I wish you the best and hopefully they'll understand.. If you don't have priors and he does perhaps that will show a pattern...

Once Sheriff Joe is taken out of office i think it should get better, but who knows. now i should clarify its not all of Arizona it's just Maricopa county.

Thank you for serving our country flowerforyou

Unfortunately, our government trains "killing" machines and doesn't also teach the translation back to civie life.

You can't react the same way here as you would in combat.

I wish you the best though. flowerforyou

Maybe look into the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as Joy suggested.
