Religions that is, Christianity in particular. They're called apologists, but they make no apologies for their god - only excuses. "We cannot question him." They have a concept of what is moral and immoral. They know the murder of children is wrong and if anyone ordered them to slaughter innocents they would call them disgusting and tell them to go to that hot place....lol. But the god they worship is not held to such moral standards, not even for what they know is immoral.

If these acts are evil acts when a person does them then they are still evil when god does them...even more so because the claim is that he loves, protects and guides.

So he is deceptive, a murderer and a trickster for the role he played in the whole temptation in the garden story. Churches teach double-think and that is the main trick of a dictator or tyrant.

To make people think war is peace, hate is love, evil is good and so on. This religion has people so fully into this worship of an invisible deity and so into the belief of impossible and silly stories. But these stories were written by mere MEN who only CLAIMED it was inspired by god and that the spirit possessed them write with no proof and over 500 years later.

And we are the crazy ones?

I just wish they'd leave me alone when I'm trying to have a good time. I'm 47, I have heard the "good news" many, many times already.

yeah, doublethink drives me crazy too. And one can't use logic to break it. They have it so ingrained, most of the time, that if Jesus came down and told 'em it was b.s., they'd say it wasn't.

One of my favorite examples of double think:
Christians: We're praying for you!
me: Do you believe prayer works?
christians: Of course! If any 2 or more christians agree in God's name....blah blah blah
me: So...what are you praying for me?
christians: That you'll see the light and come to Jesus!
me: And you believe this'll happen?
christians: Absolutely! If any 2 christians...blah blah blah..
me: So...all I have to do to prove your religion is false and your God is a liar is die and go to hell?
christians: umm...well no...that would be your choice....
me: But you just said prayer works and you're praying for me to see the light so that choice should already be made for me.
christians: umm...no...that's a choice only you can make...
me: But you JUST said a minute ago...

and on and on and on....

When I'm asked "how could I not believe?" I answer with "how can you believe?".
When I'm asked "don't you believe in some sort of god, somewhere, out there?" I answer with "Don't you believe in some sort of leprecons(sp?) or unicorns?". I have just as much proof of their existance.

Nice. I like the unicorn remark. I always say "Because all my friends are atheists and if they're going to hell, I want someone cool to hang out with for eternity."

When they tell me I'm going to Hell, I say "Good. I have friends there. They'll set me up. Plus Satan could use a few pointers in tactics."
That usually gets gasps of disbelief. I rather like getting gasps from "good" christians.

There are several things I can't stand, and don't understand.

Why is it sane to say "God speaks to me", but insane to add "by morse code in the rain" ?

Why is it considered right to believe in god without evidence, but crazy to believe in fairies in the garden, with exactly the same amount of evidence.

Of course, conspiracy theorists and the (more fundamental) theists have a lot in common. Both are willing to bend the truth, ignore facts, and flat-out lie, so that their version of the "truth" is heard.

Of course, the sooner we ride ourselves of non-sense, the better we will be.

don't worry about people who believe and worship a non existing being or whatever they choose to call "god" just rip on verses in the bible and other religions beliefs, thats what makes a nonbeliever feel better, why someone does what they do when it comes to their morals that always seem to be opposite in a book they worship means one thing, they are following the herd

Yeah, me too. I just came to this forum for the first time as an "agnostic". As soon as I saw that Peccy was posting here I clicked on this thread first because I knew I could count on it to be an intelligent post. bigsmile

Truly. drinker

I'm actually a person who believes in fairies too! flowerforyou

However, I believe in them in a totally different way from the way that Christians believe in their biblical myth. I believe in fairies as an archetypal consciousness of humanity. I won't even attempt to go into an explanation of that. But the bottom line is that if the Christians believed in their mythology in the same way we'd all be far better off.

Truly, these ancient stories are even used to support and perpetuate really bad parenting skills as well, IMHO. I see no value in this religious mythology either.

its funny, I saw this post and i immediately said "omg finally people who think like me!" i spent the past year writing about religion. i've taken a lot of heat from people for it. i was born into a muslim family and left islam at 16, i explored Judaism and christianity. its all BS i'm almost 26 now. anyway its funny because i'm completely surrounded by religion obsessed people (christianity Judaism islam etc etc). i have a disease called muscular dystrophy, everyone has this misconception that i'm "angry at god," so i deny his existence lol. it can't possibly be because i'm RATIONAL? to the OP, i feel your frustration bro. i can't eat pork in my own house because my family is obsessed with islam. i had someone tell me a few weeks ago, this Christian girl, "please believe, i want you to be in heaven with me." i just looked at her like seriously? anyway that's enough ranting, if anyone wants to read my blog about religion and how i debunked Judaism islam and christianity, send me a message i don't think i'm allowed to post it here, i would love some feedback from fellow atheists/agnostics, especially since everyone whos read it is religion obsessed.

I've learned how to preempt this question once and for all.

I completely stopped talking to people.

This works. I am so glad that I came up with at least one good idea in my life.

To uproot the evil.

That was easy.

There are other reasons, too. The church takes money out of circulation to pull the ground out from under the devil (evil). (The devil is evil.) To pull it out from the ground so it can't grow bigger. It's already way too big for its breeches.

There are some economic theorists who feel that the financial crises hitting world markets three years ago was the result of the Church hogging too much of the money that ought to have been left in circulation to keep the economy healthy.
