"Soul Mate" - It seems to be a phrase I hear a lot these days. (Most recently in an e-mail that the woman my ex cheated on me with and left me for sent to me explaining why it was ok that they did what they did...because they were SOUL MATES!! *groan* huh )

Do you believe in Soul Mates? That for every person, there is a "perfect" someone that they are destined to meet and be with? Or is the reality more that we "get as close as we can" and then spend our remaining time either trying to make it work or moving on to the next "close enough" one?

My problem is with the whole "destined" concept. Destined by who or what? Semantically, it requires a destinator (I don't think that's a real word, but what the hell) and I have yet to see any evidence of such a thing.

I think some fits are better than others. I guess it depends on how close is close enough for each of us.

Yup, I believe in 'soul mates'..I just think we can have many of them. Is not just 'one' person. All those we connect with at a heart level are our soul mates.

This is what I feel also, a soul friend, like Equss stated. The people you know the minute you meet them, laugh easily with. Friends right off the start. Met 2 in my life but one of us was always with the other at the time. Being here, I wouldn't know, I'd have to be with them physically (in the same room- get your mind out of the gutter you pervslaugh  ) to really know.

So in your thinking, the term isn't just reserved for romantic type relationships but any relationship with someone that we connect with in our hearts? Because I have several good friends (female) that I "connect with at a heart level"? We know each other so well that we finish our sentences and know when the other needs us. I would say that was "connected at the heart level" yes?

Absolutely agree. Many of my best friends (platonic) through the years have been soul mates. We were totally in tune with each other and often times mistaken for married. Also, it does not mean that we are soul mates for life but soul mates for that time when we needed and enjoyed each other. Times change, we change, our soul mates may change as well.

I feel the term "soul mates" was taken to mean that their is one perfect person out there that fits one other person. You can date people, care about them, and even love them. But is it so hard to imagine that one person is out there that can be all you ever wanted?

Sure. We all go through the dating cycle where we are looking for that one person who is going to just knock our socks off. I know a guy who went out to clubs just to hook up for sex. That was all he wanted. Until one night, he met a woman that made him "feel" more than he ever had felt for a woman. It changed him. She changed him. And a few years later, he married her. No other woman had the effect that she did on him. He was in love. And it was so easy to see. Now, to him, he believes that she is his "soul mate". Had he cared about other women? Sure he did. But this one woman made him into something. He evolved. She also believes that he is her "soul mate".

Anyways, my point is that it shouldn't be hard to believe that there is one person out there who is everything that you are looking for. I don't care if it sounds corny. Believing in something like this is worth it to me. "SIGH". But then again, what do I know? Just my thoughts.

I believe that ALL the people in our lives we have drawn in..what we choose to do with them is up to us. Some are here for a minute, a season or a lifetime...those we connect with at the 'heart or 'spiritual' level are out soul mates.

Is there just 'one' love of our lives...well obviously not.

The word soul to me, means from the heart. I believe a soul mate is a best friend that you can talk to about anything. Could be a spouse, or just a close friend. I have 3 soulmates I believe.

No, I do not believe there is just one.
There have been too many for that.
I think we idealize.
Then reality steps in.

I am guessing PATS means that if you
can tolerate someone, not an easy thing,
that the rest can flow around you, like
love and affection, friendship and desire.

You can have it all.
If you can stand someone to start with.
Which means the BIG things, not the little.

Your ex's next ex is quite the charmer
OKCUTIE67 :-)

Yes she is...especially since we've been divorced two years and she now felt she needed to "explain"....clear her conscious or whatever! Needless to say I did not respond in anyway....

Thanks Soufie! flowerforyou

Never did understand the definition of soul mate. I think it's just a couple of words used to describe something unattainable that too many are searching for and will never find.

That's kinda where I am right now too....I mean are we supposed to search forever if they never show?

I prefer Anam Cara - Soul Friend. They can be friends, lovers, etc. have a short but important time in your life, or a life long relationship, sexual or non-sexual.

I like that too... flowerforyou
