The biggest social pathology that I’ve noticed in the last 5-8 years is the condition of people avoiding responsibility for their actions – and then becoming defensive when they are held accountable. In other words – angry people that are always the victim.

Unfortunately, I’ve noticed it more in the younger generation; however, I have also witnessed this regarding some people my own age and older. My first inclination was to blame “new age” parenting wherein parents what to be the “friend” of their child and not take the less than glamorous role of disciplinarian. I can’t make that statement with any amount of certainty since I also see adults acting childish also.

I think self-entitlement is the reason we might be seeing anger around us. The causes are many, and yes, the economy is a big part of this issue. The transference from adult to child is a burgeoning problem. I believe we are raising kids to be dysfunctional adults - as most adults do not have a grip on their own dysfunction.

That social pathology has been around for decades. As far back as the early 60's, even before that. The only difference now is that the media reach is far greater than it once was, it still is a small problem, but it is created into this extravagant issue that it simply isn't.

Some people are raised by ********, and turn into ********, some people are raised by the grade-A model parents, and turn into ********...some people are raised by serial killers and turn into model citizens for years to come.

There is no correlation between parenting techniques and a childs behaviour because it is inconsistent at best. Best media glamourized example: School shootings - All of which in the past 20 years have been done by kids with a healthy relationship with their parents but an unhealthy social environment. I'm not going to blame 'being picked on' because that is too easy, but do you really think a kid is going to go shoot 13-22 other people because mommy and daddy raised them incorrectly?

Society is to blame, all of you, every single last one of you, and me too. We failed as a society, we allowed a child to get to the point where he had no other choice in his mind but to do what he did. So what do we as a caring society do? We blame medicine when the parents don't work out, and when medicine isn't to blame we blame aggressive music, and if that isn't available it is on to violent video games or movies...and we miss the violent news at 6 PM every night, or the morning news we watch before our kids go to school.

Society is a massive disappointment, really.

I blame the government and the media. They are both spreading posion worse than anything else. Some are angry because they can't buy their dream SUVs and half a million dollar houses anymore as they planned. Good!

Others are angry because they are drinking one or the other kool aid offered by the TV and newspapers, but each kool aid has actually the same flavor and that is hate, disappointment and pessimism.

Visit the political forum time to time. People spreading their BS to others and they willingly eat it up like chocolate ice cream.

I actually agree with you but here are my thoughts ...

It's not my fault! I don't want kids and I certainly don't want to be responsible for other people's kids.

Just like athletes do not want to be role models - they just want to play - I don't want to be part of the "village" and raise other people's kids. I am not a role model - I just want to play! laugh

I find this all fascinating.....

What is the motivator for anger?

Fear?

Frustration?

What is the baseline of anger?

I suspect fear...

It is really a combination of fear and frustration. I've studied school shootings since the 1999 Columbine incident (I came out of my coma on April 20th, 1999). This is perhaps the most pure of incidents we can study because it shows what kind of psychological issues were present, and in some cases there were no noted psychological issues or mental problems (correlating between right and wrong). In the case of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (Columbine), they both had caring loving family, both had good friends, jobs, the whole 9-yards. They were productive to society and in their spare time learned how to make pipe bombs in their garage.

The reason I say society is to blame is because we shun before we know, toss over the cliff before we care to ask or listen. And I think this directly creates the a******* of society, some become bullies, others become bullied. Feeding lambs to the lions so to speak, and we do it, with the power of media.

This issue is no more present now than it was in the 60's, it is just more documented. Sorry to say, but in todays society...a shooting sells more papers than charity.

I am not sure what that means...

however.....not being a tv watcher, nor big fan of false media..(propaganda)....but having a HUGE interest in the human animus...I am still curious about what motivates anger...

It is one of the contributing factors of why I don't want children, yes, but not the only reason.

Remember the incident with the greyhound bus in Canada..where a passenger has beheaded the one next to him with a pocket knife? It wasn't too long ago.
According to everyone, the guy (who was an immigrant but living in the USA for years) always appeared to be normal and looked completely happy and satisfied. His co-workers swear, they couldn't believe what he has done. He basically lost his mind.

All the anger, the frustration gathered up in him, exploded like a balloon at one point, when another passenger was mocking him. He pulled out his pocket knife and started to cut his head off. Later reports say, that while he was on the bus with his beheaded victim while everyone else was ordered off the bus, he started to eat little chunks of meat off the dead torso.

This is pretty much the indication of a society that is really f..ked up and no amount of propaganda can hide, when there are isolated incidents like this..or the columbine shooting, or let that be that pilot who flew into the IRS building with his airplane, simply because he saw no way out.

I do remember that. That is another perfect example, seemingly normal person put into a situation that they are familiar with, and eventually they snap. And usually because of the baseline society, the person that doesn't understand and instead of asking or inquiring, decides to mock.

And these people come from all walks, white-collar American, rich child of a politician, poverty stricken ghetto. Caring parents, parents that don't care, parents that beat them, or parents that ground them. There is little correlation between a bully and the parents and even more correlation between the bully and society.

I kinda start to understand where the Sodom and Gomorrah story is originated from, or at least, how and what leads up to the decision. Even if it's not a true story..still someone wrote it down for a purpose by medieval bloggers.
