The situation in the gulf is bad enough, now welcome to the gulf of Michigan. Upstream in a neighbooring town, an oil companies oil line broke and is spuing thousands of gallons of oil straight into the Kalamazoo River. This happened Tuesday and still continues. The river runs next to the mobilehome community I live in. The fumes are so bad it is forcing me to have to leave my home. They have killed our river! The wildlife will be killed! The impact on the enviroment will be horrific! This is a fast moving river, where ever it flows and touches... So shall the oil! Heading to lake Michigan! Excuse me folks, typing on a cell phone so bear with me. What kind of World are we leaving the children??? Why do we allow these Oil Companies to drill in our waters, let alone operate anywhere near water. This line is still gushing too as far as I know. It will take years for recovery- if recovery can even take place.

Reported this morning on the news. The leak has been stopped but not beore 1 million gallons spilled. They predict it won't reach Lake Michigan. Only time will tell.

sure hope they stopped it! I predict their prediction is FULL of it... I have yet to see any effort or attempts at starting some sort of clean up. Its awfull and so sad. It looks like someone just poured tons of gasoline in the water. Its all over the water. On the ground, leaves, and tree trunks on the bank.

This topic is almost a damn if you do, damn if you don't topic.

We don't like to be held hostage to by oil from the mid-east, yet we don't want off shore oil or oil well on land to be drilled in our country. What are we to do.
Non gas vehicles will not stop the need for oil. Oil is needed to lube the moving parts of the cars. Oil is used in tires and other products. Your boat, your motorized lawn mower, machinery.

So be hostage or drill in your own country. What's your choice?

Ron

..sure this may be a little far fetched, but it sure is a big coincidence that we're having all these oil spills..is it possible there is something more to this ..like sabotage...spock

But they are creating jobs...

cleaning up their mess...

that they give to imported labor...

but are they really concerned???

As long as it is not in their back yard...

NO!

Now what has Obama done for Bio Fuels and alternative energy other than that which is blessed by the major energy concerns?

NOTHING!

Maybe the oil companies think they are helping killing off all those god damn Chinese Carp infecting our waterways thanks to some stupid azzholes who let an invasive species loose in our waterways. If I remember it was a fish farm on a RIVER that accidentally released them.

Who was the stupid azzhole who allowed someone to farm a non native species in an open water way???

Back a few years ago a train derailed on a bridge over the Sacramento River above lake Shasta and dumped thousands of gallons of herbicide in the river. Everything from the bridge to the lake died. The engineer was speeding and it was clearly human induced failure.

This is just one damn problem tossed on top of another! Isn't it!

So where is our Alcohol based auto fuels? Where is our Bio Diesel?

Natural gas? Only when I eat enough beans! Actually Methane Digestion has proven to be a great way to generate electricity. Too bad the AQMD and EPA and other organizations have hampered it so much. They don't squawk when it is used in cars and trucks though but use it to make electricity and suddenly everyone in Congress is all up tight.

We are led by circus chimps dressed like clowns. GO CONGRESS, YOU POO THROWING HAIR BAGS!

Tell ya what, folks ... YOU come up with another fuel that's as ENERGY-DENSE as OIL and which has an infrastructure in place and which also has a customer base willing to actually incur the EXPENSE involved to USE it (priced GE's 'VOLT' yet? $41K), and that can ALSO compete with the fact that OIL accounts for 95.7% (roughly) of the SUPPLY to meet energy DEMAND, and then maybe you have a case. Until then, you're pisssin' in the wind ...

If you really want progress, then GET RID OF THE DAMNED ENVIRONAZIS who are the cause for oil companies needing to drill offshore in the Outer Continental Shelf - the 'environmentalists' have, thru their 'NIMBY' tactics, successfully tied the hands of anyone who wants to drill ON LAND. Same for 'The UN' and his decision to bankrupt the coal companies. He's also shut down the only nuclear waste depository in the country, so we can't build any more NUKE plants. We also have no place to ship the spent fuel rods now, thanks to him. Oh - wind, you say? Well, if it was that good, there wouldn't be as many people up in arms about the NOISE that the damned windmills make - and T. Boone Pickens wouldn't have pushed so hard to get a FEDERAL WIND SUBSIDY for his failed wind farm in W. TX.

Electricity is the answer, you say. Fine 'n dandy. One question: "Where does electricity come from, Mommy?" ... It comes from ... ta-daaaa! ... POWER PLANTS that are fired with ... ta-daa! ... COAL or OIL ... You maybe thought they burned 'electricity bushes' to get it? Remember that when you're toolin' around in that fancy li'l electric golf cart called a 'Prius'.

Sorry, but OIL is the dominant source of energy now and for the foreseeable future. Get rid of the 'environmentalists' if you want to really make progress.

Alcohol mixed with 15% gasoline. It does not do away with Gasoline COMPLETELY but it sure cuts down on it!

BIODIESEL, Better than real Diesel! Can be derived from Vegetable oil and Algae.

Regular cars can be converted to burn Alcohol very inexpensively. Any Diesel can burn Biodiesel with no conversion required.

Methane Digestion takes advantage of trash and waste. Perfect for generating electricity. But time and time again investors in Co-generation (Not the making of CO2) always seem to get screwed some how.

I agree the Eco-Weenies and Enviro-Nazis need to get weeded out. They are worst than the industries they are trying to regulate. How the hell did they get so much power anyways? Hot air produced by their fat methane producing azzes?

Saw it on the news last night.

We really need to stop with all the oil drilling and moving around.

Did this pipeline break happen under water, or did it happen on land and the oil spilled into the river??

We would'nt have such devastating spills if we were able to drill on land where its much more safe.
